Chapter Forty-Five
"Earl of Green Forest's war general! Back then, Earl of Green Forest relied on this thing to rise step by step from an ordinary soldier, eventually becoming the master of the entire province!"
Excitement and greed gleamed in the white-haired middle-aged man's eyes as he stared fixedly at the ugly green Tree Man.
As the Tree Man lunged at him, the man merely gave the broken bell in his hand a light shake.
Jingle, jingle~
The crisp ringing echoed through the air, instantly wiping the ferocious expression from the Green Tree Man's face.
Its movements abruptly froze, and its violent aura was suppressed by some inexplicable force.
To everyone's surprise, the Tree Man did not continue its attack. Instead, it calmly walked toward the white-haired man, its expression turning peaceful, like an obedient little dog.
Clearly, while this worn-out bell could mentally disturb ordinary people, its strongest ability was evidently to control this ugly Tree Man.
"Hmm?"
The white-haired man's gaze swept over Lynn. A cold smile suddenly appeared on his face as he raised his head and said icily,
"Right, there's still one fish that slipped through the net. Get rid of him!"
As soon as the man's words fell, a savage expression resurfaced on the Green Tree Man's face. It then pounced toward Lynn like a beast.
The Tree Man's limbs slammed into the ground like massive boulders with monstrous force, instantly erupting with astonishing speed as it streaked toward Lynn like a bolt of green lightning!
Lynn had intended to keep pretending to be under control so he could gather more information, but now that the other party had directly ordered the Tree Man to attack him, there was no need for him to keep up the act.
"Ice Arrow!"
Lynn no longer hesitated. With a low shout, he instantly gathered the energy particles around him.
In an instant, a long arrow of ice shot from his body, carrying bone-piercing cold as it flew straight toward the white-haired man!
The white-haired man had been eagerly anticipating how the Tree Man would defeat Lynn when he suddenly sensed an unprecedented chill rushing toward him.
"Wizard Apprentice! How is that possible?!"
Shock flashed through his eyes. He had never expected the last member of the group to be a Wizard Apprentice—and an exceptionally powerful one at that, at least a Level 2 Wizard Apprentice!
Would a Level 2 Wizard Apprentice really deliver goods for ordinary people over some damned gold and silver?
His heart was filled with confusion, but there was no time left to think. The Ice Arrow was already flying toward him with the force to destroy everything.
The long ice arrow struck toward his face with lightning speed, filling the white-haired man's eyes with terror and disbelief.
He could even clearly see his own distorted, horrified expression reflected on the ice arrow, but he could no longer make any response.
Boom!
The Ice Arrow directly blasted apart the white-haired man's head. Frost scattered everywhere, blood mixed with ice shards, and the air filled with the scent of death.
A moment later, the white-haired man's corpse stiffly collapsed, turning into a pool of shattered ice and blood. Scarlet and icy blue intertwined, instantly staining the once-peaceful mountain road into a horrifying canvas.
Yet just before the white-haired man died, his heart was filled with rage and unwillingness.
At the final moment of his life, he howled madly. His only last wish was that Earl of Green Forest's war general would prove somewhat useful and tear apart that reckless Level 2 Wizard Apprentice.
He had not put up any defense at all, instead casting a spell on himself without hesitation.
And if the Green Tree Man was truly as formidable as the rumors claimed, it should have been able to tear Lynn apart by now and send him into hell alongside him!
However, to his regret, Lynn clearly had no intention of dodging, nor was he the least bit flustered, because he had absolute confidence.
He stood firmly where he was and directly pierced the Heart of Flower Language medal at his neck with his spiritual power.
"Heart of Flower Language!"
At once, green vines and flowers burst rapidly from the ground like living creatures, twisting together. They did not rush toward Lynn, but instead lunged directly at the green Tree Man and wrapped tightly around it.
With no one around, Lynn did not need the Heart of Flower Language to protect himself. Instead, he used it to imprison the Green Tree Man.
The vines swiftly surrounded the Green Tree Man, sealing off all its room to move.
"Its constitution is actually 5. That should be Knight-level constitution, right?"
Lynn observed the Green Tree Man's strength through the Crystal Ball and felt slightly surprised.
He could even clearly hear the frantic pounding and battering coming from inside the giant vine cocoon formed by the Heart of Flower Language.
Clearly, the Green Tree Man was struggling desperately, but the vines had trapped it tightly, leaving it unable to move.
Lynn knew that this Green Tree Man possessed considerable strength, enough to rival a Knight.
He had noticed the function of that worn-out bell earlier. After controlling the Green Tree Man, he walked straight to the white-haired man's corpse and picked up the bell stained with blood.
After lightly wiping it clean with the man's clothes, Lynn infused it with spiritual power. The bell rang crisply again.
Jingle, jingle~
The ringing sounded and echoed through the air.
At the same time, the pounding from inside the cocoon formed by the Heart of Flower Language gradually stopped.
But Lynn was in no hurry to undo the cocoon. Instead, he softly commanded, "Attack!"
Bang! Bang!
Immediately, the Green Tree Man began madly battering the vines again, producing violent impacts.
Without the slightest hesitation, Lynn spoke again. "Stop attacking!"
In an instant, every sound vanished.
Lynn confirmed that he had completely controlled the Green Tree Man.
Only then did he finally feel at ease enough to dissolve the cocoon created by the Heart of Flower Language.
The cocoon dispersed like smoke, revealing the Green Tree Man inside.
Lynn carefully examined its appearance.
This Green Tree Man was not very tall, only about four feet in height. Its entire body was covered in rough branches, making it extremely ugly.
Even with its expression calm at the moment, it could not conceal that repulsive appearance.
Although its arms and body were slender, its strength was extraordinarily great, as though it were filled with a tough wooden structure.
The Green Tree Man's ugly, ferocious face looked as though it had been carved from dead wood, sending chills down one's spine.
"This thing isn't alive. It's an inanimate object..."
Lynn's gaze narrowed slightly.
He often used the Crystal Ball to inspect his surroundings, and the cargo crate containing the Green Tree Man had been by his side the entire time.
If the Green Tree Man had truly been alive, he would have noticed its presence long ago.
With this confirmation, Lynn swiftly took out several enchanted items from his spatial item and skillfully stored the Green Tree Man inside.
With a thought, he confirmed that his guess had been correct: this Green Tree Man was not a living creature, but some kind of inanimate object controlled by magic.
"Earl of Green Forest... and a Level 2 Wizard Apprentice..."
Lynn began searching beside the white-haired man's headless corpse and unexpectedly discovered that he carried quite a few items.
Although he did not possess equipment like a spatial item, several cloth bags inside his robe were filled with all sorts of objects.
Upon further thought, this was not difficult to understand.
Most of the Wizard Apprentices Lynn had killed before knew they were about to take part in a war, so naturally, they would not carry valuable items on them.
But the white-haired man before him had clearly not set out because of a war, which was why he had carried some valuable items with him.
