At dusk by the river, Carl built a wooden cabin from trees. He sat at the entrance, grilling a huge tuna.
White Tiger lay nearby, drooling all over the ground as it inhaled the aroma of grilled fish.
"Where am I?"
"Where's my box?"
The first thing Lake Sparrow did upon waking that evening was look for the box his mother had left him.
Hearing Carl inside, he gave a wry smile and pointed him toward a table not far away.
"Don't worry, kid. The box is right there."
Carl sighed helplessly. He had finally gotten away from taking care of children, yet after coming to East Blue, he was back at it again. Still, he could not let him lose that innocence. He just needed to speed things up a little.
"Where's your father? Why isn't he taking care of you?"
After seeing the box on the table, Lake Sparrow hugged it to his chest before looking around the newly built cabin.
Then, hearing Carl's question, he slowly sat down on the bed.
His mother had come from a minor noble family.
Because she was so sweet and beautiful, his father had loved her dearly.
But this enraged his stepmother. She used underhanded means to have his mother killed, then drove him from the house. Since his mother's death, his father had not cared much for him either.
His stepmother had driven him out only two days ago. Even after throwing him out, she had not been willing to let him go, sending different people to humiliate him every day.
That explained why, despite carrying such a valuable box, those people had not tried to kill him.
"Sparrow, let me teach you something."
Carl turned from the doorway to look at him.
His expression was solemn as he spoke.
