Dunn's eyes held a look of surprise.
Because, a new ability had appeared on his digitized panel.
[Observation Haki (Initial Mastery): You have a preliminary perception of the energy of all things in the world.]
He had mastered it just like that?
It was so effortless that Dunn found it hard to believe, which was why he was so surprised.
"Energy, is it?"
Dunn keenly picked up on the digitized panel's explanation of Observation Haki.
"Energy? That's a good way to put it."
Hearing Dunn's soft words, Shimotsuki Koshiro was taken aback, then fell silent for a moment before smiling and saying, "This is a description of the things you perceive yourself. Whether it is breath or energy, both represent what you understand. It seems you have truly grasped it."
As Shimotsuki Koshiro spoke, his tone was filled with deep emotion.
From his previous conversation with his father, he had vaguely sensed that Dunn had already awakened Observation Haki.
But now, Dunn's performance clearly showed that he had already become aware of this ability.
The speed of this mastery was enough to make one feel ashamed.
Even he himself had started with swordsmanship, slowly perceiving the breath of all things before finally mastering Observation Haki.
"Thank you."
Dunn closed his eyes once more. After that strange sensation reappeared, he opened his eyes and offered his thanks.
"Since you have mastered Observation Haki, then Armament Haki may not be difficult for you."
Shimotsuki Koshiro did not waste any time, intending to explain Armament Haki right away.
"In my hometown, Armament Haki is called Ryuo. It is a power born from within one's own body; if your physique is not strong enough, it is very difficult to manifest this power. It is a force that can flow and be directed. Once mastered, you can not only gain powerful defensive and offensive capabilities, but you can even contend with certain powerful Devil Fruit users."
When Shimotsuki Koshiro said this, he gave Dunn a meaningful look.
A scorching sensation would occasionally emanate from Dunn's room.
Having mastered Observation Haki, Shimotsuki Koshiro could feel it clearly.
"So, Observation Haki is the sensing of the energy of things outside oneself, while Armament Haki is actually the utilization of a certain energy within one's own body?"
Dunn had already caught on.
The description for Observation Haki mentioned energy.
Following Koshiro's explanation, perhaps this was the case as well.
If it were hard to understand, substituting it with the more easily understood concept of "internal qi" allowed Dunn to grasp it more clearly.
Of course, there might be some differences, but that was likely the general idea.
"Hmm... perhaps that is so."
Shimotsuki Koshiro fell silent for a moment, considered Dunn's explanation, and then nodded.
"My strength is limited, and I can only explain it to you according to my own understanding. There are many people on this sea stronger than me; perhaps my explanation of Observation and Armament Haki is not entirely correct," Shimotsuki Koshiro cautioned.
"You are being modest, Master. Your strength is formidable."
Dunn shook his head slightly.
Although, according to the original story, Monkey D. Luffy encountered many strong opponents along his journey, most of whom could force him into a bitter struggle, those powerhouses were actually only a small fraction of the people on the sea.
And a top-tier master swordsman was already a top-tier expert on the sea.
"Everyone has their own strengths. My aptitude is limited, and I can see the limits of my own potential. But you, Dunn, I cannot see your future."
"Is that a compliment?" Dunn smiled.
"No, I am merely stating a fact. This world is not peaceful. I know you may have a good understanding of this world, so you should also know what this world is like."
As Dunn listened, he gradually felt something was off and immediately raised a hand.
"I've heard that Armament Haki is a power that is guided out—by imagining that you are wearing an invisible suit of armor over your body?"
He changed the subject abruptly.
Shimotsuki Koshiro naturally noticed.
He also knew he had said a bit too much just now.
He had a feeling that Dunn might become a pivotal figure on this sea in the future.
And such a person, no matter what they did, could potentially influence the entire world.
"You are right!"
Shimotsuki Koshiro said, raising his hand and holding it horizontally before him.
Dunn narrowed his eyes; within the perception of his Observation Haki, a layer of something was coating Shimotsuki Koshiro's arm.
"This is the most basic application of Armament Haki. When your Armament Haki reaches a sufficient quantity, it will manifest like this."
As Shimotsuki Koshiro spoke, his arm looked as if it were truly covered in a layer of dark purple armor.
"And like this!"
Koshiro raised his hand and grabbed the cup on the table in front of him.
The dark purple hue coated the cup.
"Flowing, or what is known as Ryuo—these are all applications of Armament Haki."
Dunn nodded slightly upon hearing this.
"I understand."
"If you understand, you can try to guide your own Armament Haki later, but this is no easy task. Many people spend their entire lives unable to manifest this energy. Of course, for you, it shouldn't be difficult."
Dunn looked down at his hands and tried it briefly, but he did not succeed.
It seemed he would need to put in some more effort.
"There is one thing I must remind you: the amount of Haki is finite, not infinite. If you exhaust too much Haki, you will need time to recover. This duration varies from person to person, as does the amount of Haki itself, and all of this is tied to one's physical constitution."
"I understand, I will keep that in mind."
Dunn nodded.
"In that case, you should head back for now and try it on your own. Starting tomorrow, I will spar with you personally. If you want to quickly understand how to apply your sword skills and Haki, combat is the best way."
Shimotsuki Koshiro said with a beaming smile.
However, there was a hint of malice in that tone.
Of course, Dunn was not afraid in the slightest.
After rising to take his leave, Dunn departed.
Once outside, Dunn took out a silk scarf to blindfold himself and unleashed his unpracticed Observation Haki.
Regardless of anything else, using it more often was never a mistake.
If exhausting too much Haki would take a toll on the body, Dunn could completely ignore such negative effects.
Kuina was swinging her sword alone in the dojo, while in the woods behind it, Zoro was swinging a bamboo sword with stones tied to it in both hands.
Meanwhile, Dunn returned to his room to attempt to guide his own Armament Haki.
At dusk.
An inconspicuous merchant ship slowly approached Shimotsuki Village and docked at the pier.
The people who disembarked all had their faces obscured by gray cloaks.
However, the head of one of them was somewhat exaggerated in size.
"Move quickly. Once we've collected the grain, we leave. Our identities are somewhat sensitive."
A low voice rang out, and the others nodded in unison.
The group traveled in silence, and before long, they arrived in front of the Isshin Dojo, where Shimotsuki Koshiro was already waiting.
"The grain is all prepared."
Shimotsuki Koshiro spoke in his usual slow, unruffled tone, clearly having already made arrangements with these people.
