What was this?
Crocodile shot to his feet, his eyes widening as he stared fixedly at the light shining in from outside.
In an instant, the oppressive feeling in his heart eased.
Only after quite a while did his expression relax, followed by a bitter smile.
"Sure enough... I once harbored delusional ambitions. Only now do I understand that ambition must be matched by strength."
Without sufficient strength to support it, immense ambition would only crush him.
But now, it was fine.
After his earlier conversation with the chairman, he had thought the chairman would never return.
Since he was back, no problem was a problem anymore.
He knew that after Dunn had suddenly vanished and failed to reappear, some people had begun entertaining certain thoughts.
But now, whatever thoughts those people had, they would have to swallow them back down and keep them hidden.
"Vice Chairman."
The sound of a cane tapping against the floor rang out.
"Mr. Issho, this is rare. You actually came here on your own."
Crocodile wore a smile.
"Don't tell me you lost everything again?"
"Lost everything? This time, this old man won quite a bit. Something must have happened."
Issho entered as he spoke, his clouded eyes turning toward Crocodile.
"The chairman has returned."
"I see."
Issho slowly nodded at those words.
"Mr. Issho, I trust you don't want me telling the chairman that after he left, you holed up in the casino and never came out?"
Crocodile said as he looked at Issho.
Issho's expression stiffened.
"The state of the world has changed. Though it is still chaotic, it is moving in a better direction. This old man is alone and can do little."
As Issho spoke, his grip on his cane tightened.
"Do you think the chairman would believe that explanation?"
