It was the rainy season. Fine raindrops drifted from the sky, striking pedestrians in the face as dampness seeped into their bones. The sky was always gloomy, thick with dark clouds layered around Gotham City. Looking up, the endless clouds seemed to carry a breathtaking sense of oppression.

Gotham City residents went about their daily lives beneath umbrellas, their paths punctuated by grumbling complaints and curses aimed at the hateful weather. Gotham during the rainy season made its citizens even more irritable. Whenever weather like this came, crime rates soared.

"This damn weather. I have to arm myself to the teeth every time I leave the house. What a pain." As he spoke, the citizen quietly rested his hand on the pistol at his waist. It made him feel safer. Gotham's rainy season truly gave the weak no peace of mind; they worried greatly about the safety of their lives and property.

"Hasn't it been like this year after year? What's there to complain about?" A homeless man shivered all over from the cold. After great effort, he managed to ignite the scraps inside a battered oil drum and comfortably warmed himself by the fire. Listening to the pedestrians curse, he bared a mouthful of large yellow teeth and let out a harsh laugh.

This was an elderly homeless man. The course of his life was the history of Gotham City's development and changes over the past several decades. He had lived through Falcone's terrifying era, witnessed the rise of The Mystery of the Shadow, and seen with his own eyes the Dark Knight wage a brutal battle against the fearsome enemy known as the League of Shadows. Gotham City, with its tens of millions of people, had been shrouded beneath the Dark Knight's shadow.
