A Sneakoscope looked like a spinning top made of glass.
Once someone had a Sneakoscope, it would spin and glow whenever anything suspicious appeared nearby.
The Sneakoscope lying quietly in Paul Smith's palm showed no reaction. Under normal circumstances, that meant one thing: the Dark wizard was not lying.
Standing nearby, Wizet offered his theory. "Mr. Smith, could interference from some sort of Magical Contract be preventing the Sneakoscope from working?"
"That's what I thought too!" Paul Smith nodded. "Now all we can do is see... just how powerful this Magical Contract is!"
He waved his wand and began another round of spellcasting. As he cast, he incorporated the clues Wizet had provided into his questioning, repeatedly approaching it from different angles.
After all that effort, the Dark wizard still revealed no clues, leaving Paul Smith looking grim.
However, Wizet had already subdued all the No-Majs and Dark wizards involved in the attack, so he could question the others and try to find a breakthrough.
After questioning several more Dark wizards without obtaining any clues, he could only tighten his grip on his wand in frustration.
Jimmy and Brian were in the same situation. They had questioned the No-Majs and likewise obtained no clues.
Brian looked deeply unhappy. "If we could use Legilimency, we might be able to get something out of them!"
Jimmy's voice was just as regretful. "Exactly! If we had Veritaserum, we might be able to loosen their tongues too!"
"If we don't get some crucial information out of them now... by the time we identify whoever was behind this, they'll be long gone!"
Brian and Jimmy were both Hit Wizards. Although they were not elite Aurors like Paul Smith, they still dealt with all sorts of related crimes and had accumulated considerable experience.
They knew very
