The second day of the O.W.L. examinations was the written and practical exams for Ancient Runes.

Harry and Ron had not chosen Ancient Runes. As Hermione put it, that gave them a whole extra day compared to her to prepare for the upcoming Potions exam.

When Harry and Ron rubbed their eyes and arrived in the Great Hall for lunch, they discovered that Hermione was nowhere to be seen.
