Mrs Norris reacted the fastest. In the blink of an eye, she darted behind Filch, rose onto her hind legs, and seemed to want to catch the falling Filch.
Fred and George instinctively reached out as well, trying to pull Filch back.
Wizet snapped his fingers and conjured a ring-shaped cushion, catching the falling Filch without crushing Mrs Norris.
A gap opened along the side of the ring cushion, and Mrs Norris cooperatively slipped out through it.
"Meow! Meow!"
Mrs Norris meowed twice at Wizet, then kicked off with her hind legs and leapt onto Filch's chest, licking his face.
Fred slung an arm around Wizet's shoulder. "Just what I'd expect from you!"
George put an arm around Wizet's other shoulder. "You only said a few things, and you actually scared Filch unconscious."
Fred nodded. "We've been messing with Filch for so long, and we never managed to talk him into fainting."
"Right!" George returned to the earlier topic. "You said Filch could become a wizard. Is that true?"
Whether it was Mrs Norris's licking or George bringing up the subject of "wizards" again, the unconscious Filch slowly opened his eyes.
The feel of the cushion beneath him nearly made Filch think that everything that had just happened had been a dream.
Yet the ceiling before his eyes, Mrs Norris's concerned gaze, and Fred and George's noisy voices in his ears made Filch realize that everything had truly happened.
"Making Mr. Filch into a wizard seems... not entirely impossible."
Wizet's words were like an echo in a valley, reverberating endlessly through Filch's mind.
"Wizet..." Filch swallowed, then tried several other forms of address. "Mr. Lovegood! Mr. Wizet Lovegood!"
"Could I..." His clouded eyes brightened at that moment, though his voice was full of unease. "Could I really have a chance...
