Background / History
The Moon Beast is an ancient creature born in darkness that absorbs the essence of the night. The Moon Worship Tribe describes it as a Sky Swallowing Beast: an exceptionally dangerous, violent being believed to have been annihilated by the tribe's ancestors. In reality, the tribe's main lineage secretly kept it under contract and used it as its greatest source of power. 235
The tribe forcibly contracted the Moon Beast through a fragment of the Eye of the Heavenly God, then used the fragment as a suppressive object in the Great Tomb. The contract allowed the Moon Worship Tribe to absorb the Moon Beast's power, while binding it through Karma lines and a dark art that was difficult to undo. 243 260 262
Its stolen power corrupted Cheng Xinghe, who became feral and unstable after absorbing it. Su Zhan exposed the truth, refused to continue supporting the tribe's exploitation, and resolved to return the Moon Beast's energy. 259 260
Appearance
The Moon Beast normally exists as an unusual spiritual-energy body rather than an ordinary flesh-and-blood fierce beast. After recovering its stolen power, it regains a majestic true form with a fierce aura and abundant spirit energy. 238 262
- Its spiritual body becomes increasingly ethereal after sustained exposure to White Dragon Flame. 238
- Its true form is described as fierce, majestic, and beautiful, with an aura likened to that of a powerful lion. 262
- It can conjure a water mirror. 365
- Following its tribulation, it appears disheveled enough that the others laugh upon seeing its reflection. 365
Personality
The Moon Beast is initially hostile, suspicious, and intensely focused on freedom after years of exploitation by the Moon Worship Tribe. It is wary of contracts and reluctant to reveal information about its past, but becomes cooperative once Su Zhan offers a mutually binding agreement. 238 239 240
Despite its fearsome reputation, it displays concern for Su Zhan, warns him of danger, and eventually chooses to travel with him after regaining its strength. It can be blunt and mocking toward enemies, notably taunting Daoist Tian Qiong, yet is also selfless enough to suggest abandoning its Divine Bone rather than endanger Su Zhan and his allies. 262 263 333 357 359
