Zhou Tieshan's brow furrowed even tighter. He looked at Li Mingyuan, his gaze carrying scrutiny, disappointment, and helplessness.

"I know more or less about the things you've done," Zhou Tieshan said.

"I never said anything before because, though you're from a branch family, you're still a member of the Li Family. It wasn't my place to meddle. But since you came to me today, let me ask you this: were those things you did clean?"

Li Mingyuan clenched his teeth. "Whether they were clean or not, the evidence has to speak for itself."

Zhou Tieshan stared at him for a long time before finally sighing.

"Fine. Stay here. There are several empty rooms on the first floor—pick one yourself. But Mingyuan, let me put the ugly words first: if the Inspection Department really comes knocking, I won't stand up for you. Whatever lies between you and them, you settle it yourself."

Li Mingyuan nodded. "I understand. Thank you, Elder Zhou."

Zhou Tieshan waved a hand, picked up the document again, and did not look at him further.

Li Mingyuan turned and went upstairs, finding himself a room on the second floor.

He lay on the bed, staring at the ceiling as he repeatedly considered how to deal with what came next. The Inspection Department certainly would not let this go.

But no one dared make too much of internal Federation affairs. As long as they did not dare storm the Sky Swallow Battle Corps' base to arrest him, he was safe for now.
