Archduke Karl looked at Werneck.

"Which unit is closest? Send them to reinforce Augsburg at once!"

Before the latter could reply, Kutuzov rose first and walked to the map. After studying it with a frown for a moment, he suddenly picked up a pencil and drew an arrow on each side of the little flag representing the main French Army force southwest of Nuremberg.

He then drew a downward arrow from the position of the Surt Legion in the north, followed by a line north of Augsburg in the south.

Finally, he connected all the arrows.

When the other Allied generals looked at the map, their pupils contracted.

Centered on Nuremberg, a massive C-shaped encirclement was closing around it.

"This is the French's true objective." The Russian commander sighed and gestured at the distance. "If nothing unexpected happens, we will be hit by fierce attacks from three directions at once in about a week."

But Archduke Karl shook his head grimly.

"No. Judging by the marching speed the French Army has displayed so far, we have five days at most."

Kutuzov stared at Nuremberg's position.

Nuremberg merely happened to lie along the Allied Forces' route when they attacked Baden. Though prosperous, it sat in the middle of a small basin, making it extremely unfavorable for a large army to conduct defensive operations.

Duke of York immediately said, "As I said, we should retreat to Saxony and set up a defensive line. There are only thirty thousand French troops in the north. We can drive them back easily."
