Perna lowered her head nervously and said softly, "Your Highness, this is all my fault... I've neglected the Mask Factory lately, which is why Syringes are still only being trialed within the Military Medical University."
It was not entirely her fault, either. Ever since France had gone to war with the Anti-French Alliance, she had been busy at the front organizing professional Battlefield Hospitals, so much so that she had forgotten she was still in charge of a Mask Factory.
After all, she was only a twenty-year-old girl. Though she had absorbed modern medical theory quickly, management was not her strength.
After briefly asking about the situation, Joseph nodded. "There will be more and more work involving the compilation of the manual and the Military Medical University. I'll find someone else to manage the Mask Factory."
Perna visibly relaxed, then briefly explained to Covisat what a Syringe was.
Covisat's eyes immediately lit up. "This is truly a great invention!
"In the future, bloodletting... Ahem, I mean, in the future we'll be able to inject medicine into patients more effectively. This instrument should be promoted throughout the country at once." Although the French medical community had gradually begun abandoning bloodletting under the influence of Perna's papers, Covisat's instincts as an old doctor had first led him to think that drawing blood with a Syringe would leave no wound behind.
Then he remembered that the first author of Doctor Perna's paper, "Bloodletting Does Not Help Treat Disease," was His Highness the Crown Prince, and hurriedly changed his wording.
Joseph nodded. "That is indeed the case, but not every medicine can be administered by injection, especially herbal remedies. Determining which medicines can be injected and which cannot will require a great deal of animal testing, as well as human trials."
Perna interjected softly
