Chapter Summaries

Lucien rescued a young witch from wizards who had cornered her in Knockturn Alley and discovered her magic was unusually powerful. She introduced herself as Astoria Gre- before collapsing, as strange blue-and-black light rose from her body and her magic surged.

• Lucien spotted a white-haired girl surrounded by wizards in a Knockturn Alley dead end and hurried over.
• The girl briefly tried to Apparate, but the spell failed.
• Lucien blasted the black-toothed wizard into a wall with a scarlet beam, and the other wizards fled with him.
• Lucien examined the girl and found she possessed an enormous amount of magic for her apparent age.
• The girl thanked Lucien and began to introduce herself as Astoria Gre- before collapsing in his arms.
• Blue-and-black light rose from the girl as her magic surged and her skin grew paler.

Lucien rescued Astoria Greengrass after she accidentally Apparated into Knockturn Alley and fainted. He carried her toward Diagon Alley, where her worried mother and sister were waiting, and Astoria wondered whether her family name would keep people from bullying her.

• Astoria woke in Knockturn Alley on a sofa Lucien had made and recognized him as the man her sister Daphne often talked about.
• Astoria said she had fainted after accidentally Apparating while trying out magic during a wand selection.
• When Astoria stumbled from weakness, Lucien transformed the sofa into a pony and lifted her onto its back.
• Astoria thanked Lucien for driving away the people who had frightened her, and he explained that her Greengrass name would make them think twice about harming her.
• As they reached the entrance to Diagon Alley, Astoria asked whether she should tell people her family name so no one would bully her.
