Notes: Translation Issues

This book uses the newer Chinese translations from People's Literature Publishing House wherever possible, but some of them are simply too painfully awkward to read (mainly because they are overly long and clumsy, though some are outright mistranslations), so the author's own translations are used instead:

1. Cornwall Pixie (Pixie) — changed to Cornish Pixie (Cornish Pixie refers to the Cornwall Pixie)

2. Ghost Woman (Banshee) — changed to Banshee

3. Mischievous Spirit (Poltergeist) — changed to Poltergeist

4. Winged Horse with an Eagle's Head (Hippogriff) — changed to Hippogriff

6. Beautification Potion** (Beautification Potion) — changed to Beautification Potion (this potion made its user's appearance more attractive)

Note*: Love Potion is one type of Love Potion, while Amortentia is the most potent of several Love Potions.

Note**: Beautification Potion is one type of Cosmetic Potion. Beautification Potion appears in the Book of Potions, while the term "Cosmetic Potion" comes from Madam Primpernelle's Beautifying Potions in Diagon Alley (best known for its wart-removing potion). Chocolate Frog card celebrity Sacharissa Tugwood also invented several Cosmetic Potions, most notably Pimple Potion.

Note***: The original translation rendered both No. 8 and No. 9 as "Summoning Charm," but the former is a "charm" that moves an object from afar into one's hand, while the latter is "Transfiguration" that turns invisible magic into a physical entity. The author's new translations distinguish the two more clearly.

Note****: "Spirit" was more appropriately changed here to "spirit entity." Ghosts are only one kind of spirit entity. At least four kinds of confirmed spirit entities exist: ghosts, Banshees, Hinkypunks, and Caiporas. An unconfirmed spirit entity mentioned in the original work is the fire spirit Heliopath (mentioned by Luna). The Spirit Division should be responsible for matters related to all spirit entities, rather than being limited solely to ghosts.
