Reference: Map of the Wizarding World

The world in the original Harry Potter novels was merely the tip of the iceberg of the entire wizarding world. Here, the author lists the important locations from official canon. One point to note: the countries and political systems of the wizarding world did not completely overlap with those of the Muggle world. To avoid confusing readers, they would also be listed one by one here:

Britain

- London Ministry of Magic: It governed the wizards living throughout Great Britain (Scotland, England, Wales, and Northern Ireland) as well as Ireland. Unlike in the Muggle world, Ireland was not an independent political state.

- London, Diagon Alley: The largest wizarding commercial district in Britain.

- London, King's Cross Station: Wizards could board a steam train reserved for their use here. The only known station at present was Hogsmeade Station (where Hogwarts students got off).

- London, St Mungo's Hospital: It admitted patients from all across Britain. Muggles injured by magic were also treated here.

- North Sea, Azkaban: An unplottable location on an island in the North Sea some distance from Britain, also under the jurisdiction of the British Ministry of Magic.

- Scottish Highlands, Hogwarts: An unplottable location that admitted wizarding students from all across Britain.

- Scottish Highlands, Hogsmeade Village: The only all-wizard village in Britain.

- Ottery St. Catchpole: The Weasley, Diggory, Lovegood, and Fawcett wizarding families lived here.

- Godric's Hollow: The Potter, Dumbledore, Abbott, and Bathilda Bagshot wizarding families lived here.

- Dingwall: The Wenlock Family and Bill Weasley's family lived here after his marriage.

- Dartmoor: An international-standard Quidditch stadium was built here, and the 1994 World Cup was held here.

- Hebrides, Dria Island: An unplottable location filled with dangerous Quintapeds.

- Hebrides, Black Dragon Breeding Reserve: A dragon reserve managed by the MacFusty Clan, dedicated to caring for the ferocious Hebridean Black dragons.

- Hebrides, Hermetray Island: Zygmunt Budge once lived in seclusion here and conducted numerous experiments, eventually writing Book of Potions.

- Island of Avalon: A legendary island shrouded in mist, a place no one had been able to confirm, and the domain of the legendary dark witch Morgan le Fay (from a Chocolate Frog card).

Germany

- Black Forest: There was a wizarding village nearby, where the Ellerby and Spudmore Broom Company was located. Quirrell was once harassed by a Hag and vampires here.

- Author's invention: The wizarding village was called Wiesbad Village, and it was home to a professional smuggler named Nicholas.

France

- Montmartre, Paris, Secret Wizard Alley: The largest wizarding commercial district in France.

- Pyrenees, Beauxbatons: The magic school with the largest student body in all of Europe, admitting wizards from across the continent.

Spain

- Barcelona, author's invention: The headquarters of Silver Spear, a secret Dueling Club founded in the early eighteenth century, was located here. An all-European dueling tournament was held here every five years.

Italy

- Sardinia, headquarters of the Medieval European Wizards Association: The International Wizards' Conference was held here in 1289. Hermione interrupted Professor Binns when he was explaining this.

Transylvania

- In the wizarding world, Transylvania had its own Ministry of Magic and national Quidditch team. Unlike in the Muggle world, it was not part of Romania, but an independent political state.

- Author's invention: The headquarters of the Underground Necromancer Guild was located here, specifically taking in necromancers and undead creatures such as vampires and zombies.

Romania

- Dragon Breeding Reserve: Romania had the largest dragon breeding reserve in the world, founded by Harvey Rigbit in the early nineteenth century. Charlie Weasley worked here after graduating, and the four dragons in the 1994 Goblet of Fire came from here.

Sweden

- Dragon Breeding Reserve: Sweden also had a dragon breeding reserve dedicated to caring for Swedish Short-Snouts.

- Kopparberg: The starting point of the annual "Annual Broom Race" was located here, with the finish line in Arjeplog three hundred miles away. The route passed through the dragon breeding reserve.

Albania

- Forest: Albania had one of the oldest forests in the world. Voldemort hid here twice after losing power.

Austria

- Nurmengard: A famous wizarding prison that held only Grindelwald.

Western Russia (the border mountains between Belarus and Russia):

- Ural Mountains, Valley of Giants: The world's last giant tribe, with only a little over twenty giants remaining.

- Scandinavian Peninsula, Durmstrang: One of Europe's three major wizarding schools, recruiting wizards from across Europe but accepting only students from pure-blood families.

- Aeaea: The residence of Circe, the ancient Greek Transfiguration master and Chocolate Frog Card celebrity.

Egypt

- Pyramids: Said to be the earliest wizarding civilization and the native homeland of Sphinxes.

- Cairo, Egyptian Alchemy Research Center: Dumbledore took part in an international alchemy conference held here as a student and won the Gold Award for Pioneering Contribution.

Burkina Faso

- Runespoor Breeding Area: Burkina Faso possesses the world's only Runespoor breeding area, entirely controlled by the Burkina Faso Ministry of Magic. All Runespoor ingredients on the market come from here.

Uganda

- Mountains of the Moon, Uagadou: The wizarding school with the largest student body in the world, recruiting wizards from across Africa.

China

- Dragon Breeding Area: China also has a dragon breeding area dedicated to caring for Chinese Fireballs.

- Tibet: The native homeland of the Tibetan yeti. One of Lockhart's books described his adventures here.

- Koldovstoretz: One of the world's eleven most famous wizarding schools.

- Minami Iwo Jima, Mahoutokoro: One of the world's eleven most famous wizarding schools.

Indonesia

- Borneo Jungle: Nagini was discovered here by the Arcanus Circus and taken to France; it is also the native homeland of Acromantulas. As Acromantulas are a product of wizarding Dark Arts, this indicates that a gathering place for dark wizards exists here.

Assyria

- An ancient civilization located within present-day Iraq. Unlike in the Muggle world, it had not vanished and remained an independent state in the wizarding world. Neville's Uncle Algie bought Neville a Mimbulus mimbletonia here.

United States

- Summit of Mount Greylock, Ilvermorny: One of the world's eleven most famous wizarding schools, recruiting wizards from across North America.

Brazil

- Amazon Rainforest, Castelobruxo: One of the world's eleven most famous wizarding schools, recruiting wizards from across South America.

- Amazon Rainforest, Caipora Tribe: The Caipora and Castelobruxo had an ancient agreement. They guarded Castelobruxo's grounds and buildings, and under cover of night kept watch over the students and the creatures living in the rainforest.

- Fictionalized by the author: The company that invented and manufactures Peruvian Instant Darkness Powder is called Polachi Alchemy Workshop.
