All along, this task had been Mew's responsibility.
Over thousands upon thousands of years, Mew had used Aura to regulate the World Tree's ecosystem, honing immensely powerful Aura Power in the process. Roy asked curiously, "If you're in charge of it, then what's an Aura Wielder for?"
At that, Mew flew in front of Roy, put its hands on its hips, and replied with complete confidence. "Mew! (Because sometimes I want to go out and have fun!)"
Roy found himself utterly speechless.
Mew's relationship with the World Tree was like that of a boss and a company.
When the boss got tired and wanted a vacation, what was wrong with that?
Come to think of it, Mew had been utterly devoted to the World Tree. It had enjoyed the blessings of a 007 work schedule for over ten thousand years, only occasionally sneaking off to have fun.
And the so-called Aura Wielder was actually just a temporary manager Mew found for its company whenever it went out to play.
What Mew said next confirmed it.
...Whenever I go out to play, just have Lucario help me watch the house for a while.
...The big idiots will deal with any enemies.
The job sounded pretty easy, and Roy had no objections. He then asked Boss Mew about the pay and benefits. "What's the reward?"
Mew thought about it. It had too many things, so it did not know what would be appropriate to give him.
So it asked Roy what reward he wanted instead.
Just then, a heavy set of footsteps approached, interrupting their conversation.
The Steel God Pillar—Registeel—appeared.
The shadow cast by its massive body completely engulfed Roy and the Pokémon. The hexagonal pattern on its face lit up as it looked down at them, radiating a mountain-like Intimidate.
