Once they got in, the car started moving. Lena began discussing cosmetics and perfume with Mrs. Dent, while Link was happy to have some peace and quiet. Sitting in the back seat, he narrowed his eyes slightly and secretly checked a panel no one else could see.

I wonder when I'll be able to raise my Intelligence to 13 points. When I raised it to 12 before, I could already feel my mind becoming more flexible. Many things that had once been difficult to understand became easy to figure out.

I've learned most of the material from high school classes. I probably won't be able to advance Basic Science any further until I start studying college-level subjects. Going from Novice to Beginner might even grant me an Intelligence attribute increase.

The other skills are one thing, but calling my level of Basic Science "Novice" just feels off somehow. Still, this dumbass system has never explained anything.

I still haven't figured out how to obtain Evolution Points. What bothers me the most is the Space-Time Mission Function. What conditions does it take to activate? I still have no idea!

Muttering to himself internally, Link felt a little headache coming on.

As for the origin of this system panel, it had to start with Link's rebirth. He had merely woken up one day without anything unusual happening, only to discover that he had become a Western child—a boy named Link Bennett.

In his previous life, he had been Chinese. He had lived safely into his thirties, working a routine job at some company every day for a salary that was enough to feed himself. There had been nothing particularly remarkable about him.

One day, he had gone out to eat with his coworkers and drunk a little too much. Then, in a daze, he suddenly discovered one day that this boy from a small town in the United States had actually been Chinese in his previous life.

Link had not transmigrated as a soul. It was more like reincarnation. Because his brain had needed time to develop, memories of his previous life had only slowly begun awakening when he was six. It was not until he was seven that he completely recovered his former memories and personality.

At the same time, because he had been reborn, Link found it easier to accept his current circumstances. He simply assumed that he had failed to drink Meng Po Soup when he reincarnated. As for returning to his previous life, he knew that was impossible.

Based on what he had learned over the past year or so about history and famous figures, this life appeared to be in a parallel world. Whether it was history or the major current events of recent years that he remembered, everything was the same as in his previous life.

Of course, with the system in his mind, he felt that life in this world held more promise. It also made him more proactive than he had been in his previous life.

He even looked forward to the day the Space-Time Mission Function would activate, though he still had not found out what conditions were needed to trigger it.

This system had only this one panel and offered no further explanation. It was unlike the systems in many stories, which came with system spirits or shops at the drop of a hat. Those system spirits could be cold and aloof, scheming, tsundere, chatty, or shameless; you could chat with them whenever you liked, while their system shops constantly tempted you to spend money.

The system he had received was not artificial intelligence at all. It was incredibly rigid, nothing more than a simple panel. He had to figure everything out himself. As for spending money? Keep dreaming!

He had read plenty of webnovels in his previous life, including many system stories. Most systems could be divided into several categories.

The first category was the mystical type, providing things like magic, martial arts, cultivation, and superpowers.

The second category was the technological type, providing all kinds of high technology, genetic enhancements, and science-fiction weapons.

The third category was the real-world type, covering things like becoming a celebrity, writer, scientist, villain, or good person.

The third category occasionally mixed in abilities and items from the first two, but reality remained its focus.

His own system seemed to be a real-world type system. It had never provided any supernatural abilities or items. Yet even now, he had never obtained a single Evolution Point.

More importantly, the Space-Time Mission Function behind it represented limitless possibilities. Link suspected it might allow him to obtain abilities from the first two categories, but after trying countless methods, it still had not activated.

If he lived in a world with special abilities, then with this function that could turn abilities into skills, Link believed he would have a good chance of acquiring some special powers.

The trouble was that, so far, he had not found anything related to the mystical side in this world. He guessed it was most likely an ordinary world.

Still, having a system was better than having none, and this system was quite practical.

Over the past few years, he had continually improved his attributes and abilities based on the functions he had tested in the system. Otherwise, there was no way he could have possessed physical attributes close to an adult's and above-average intelligence at his age.

Link had only confirmed how to improve his attributes after conducting many tests. It was actually quite simple, much like certain character-raising games. To improve an attribute, all he had to do was perform related training.

For example, working out at the gym or learning to fight increased the experience for Strength, Agility, and Constitution by varying amounts depending on the activity. Reading books and learning knowledge increased Intelligence, and he could genuinely feel those improvements.

Most importantly, such improvement was not restricted by one's innate talent ceiling or age. Otherwise, Link could never have obtained his current basic attributes.

Skills could likewise be improved through instruction from others and personal practice. For example, reading on his own and attending classes could both raise his Basic Science level.

However, the relevant skill level could only increase when his knowledge truly grew or when his understanding of that knowledge deepened.

He had learned Brazilian Jiu-Jitsu in a school course. Link had originally wanted to sign up for Chinese Martial Arts, but the school did not offer it, and he had not seen any Chinese martial arts schools either.

After figuring out how to improve attributes and skill levels, Link had never forgotten to work hard from the age of seven onward. Combined with his natural physical growth, he had raised all his physical attributes to nearly adult levels by the age of fourteen.

Intelligence was relatively special. It had started at 10.7 points. Later, Link had raised it to its current level through continuous learning and the attribute boosts provided when the Basic Science skill appeared.

As for Charm, its effects were not as obvious, and it was not as easy to improve as the other attributes. It had not been his main focus, so its growth remained limited.

Finally, there was Perception. Link had yet to find a clear method for improving those attributes. Still, overall, through the Stats Panel and his own training, Link had indeed gained tangible benefits.
