Background / History

Foundation and rise

The Golden Dynasty was founded after Marika the Eternal occupied the Altus Plateau and established Leyndell as her royal capital. By Golden Calendar Year 46, it had existed for less than half a century and had become the dominant power in the Lands Between. 1

Its rise was built on conquest, centralized rule, and Leyndell's ability to draw talent, wealth, soldiers, supplies, and technology from across the continent. A former elder described the capital as a machine that continuously absorbed resources from its territories and transformed them into strength for the eastern and western legions. 32

The dynasty's prosperity is tied to its possession of the Elden Ring and the Erdtree's grace. This blessing provides abundant Runes and supports the growth of the long-lived, physically robust, and unusually capable Golden People. 448

Wars of unification

Under Elden Lord Godfrey, formerly Hoarah Loux of the Badlands, the dynasty's Eastern Expedition Legion defeated successive rival powers and expanded its territory across the continent. Godfrey's forces were later regarded as the strongest army in history, having fought without defeat until their exile beyond the Mist Sea. 86 577

The Golden Dynasty waged a northern campaign against the Giant Dynasty in Golden Year 20. The Fire Giants' defenses at Lord Cliff initially repelled repeated attacks, but the dynasty later conquered the northern territories, relocated much of Odys Town's population to Altus, and settled Golden People in Odys, Sol, Ordina, and other former Storm territories. 54 379 383

In Golden Year 33, the Eastern Expedition Legion captured Stormveil and killed the Storm Queen, ending the Storm Dynasty as an independent state. Leyndell's wealth is visibly concentrated in its noble class. Though many older aristocratic families possessed longer histories, the Golden nobles surpassed them in practical power, wealth, and military strength. 23
