Background / History
Green Tower Defection
Rigel was Farino’s disciple and Charlotte Fenrir’s junior apprentice brother in the Green Tower. He stole a fragment of the Heart of Nature and became a traitor. Charlotte pursued him for several days; recovering the fragment and confronting him formed part of her trial for promotion to senior Druid 35 42 47.
His connection to the Corruption Cult remains uncertain. Charlotte initially suspected membership, but found no nearby traces of the cult. She also noted that his sacrifices included no spellcasters, unlike the cult’s reported operations against them. Nevertheless, she considered his ritual consistent with the cult’s destructive, unnatural methods 42.
Flesh Ritual in the Whispering Forest
Lynn’s party discovers Rigel in a concealed valley, surrounded by a ring of living creatures and adventurers reduced to sacrificial flesh. At the center, he proposes to a bound, veiled blonde girl. Attacks against him injure the sacrifices instead, and he retaliates with a rain of corrupting blood 34 35.
Charlotte rescues the girl and recruits Lynn’s team to help kill him. Her incomplete Heart of Nature suppresses his damage transfer, allowing Celine and Liam to inflict fatal wounds. However, red light from Rigel’s pierced heart begins resisting the relic’s domain 35 36.
Mutation and Pursuit
Celine decapitates Rigel, but he survives and replaces his head. He addresses Charlotte as his bride, claiming that she agreed to become a “vessel.” He then absorbs the Flesh Rings, offers his soul to an unknown entity, and becomes a monstrous fusion of their bodies 37.
Rigel pursues Charlotte and Lynn through the forest, using plants and a Magic Wolf to exchange positions and launch surprise attacks. The reunited adventurers discover that severed pieces of his body become ownerless, allowing Lynn’s Mana Drain to strip away their magic and prevent them from contributing to his recovery 38 39.
Death and Aftermath
Charlotte’s Blood Moon attack tears a massive hole through Rigel, but he continues regenerating. As the party removes his flesh and Lynn drains its mana, he absorbs two Magic Wolves and begins swelling for a self-destructive explosion 40.
Lynn activates the Heart of Nature, halting the explosion and freeing the stolen mana from Rigel’s control. With his fused flesh stripped away and his old wounds restored, Rigel collapses. Charlotte extracts his heart, ending his life; Lynn then drains the corpse completely to prevent another undead revival 41.
The heart contains a jade-like fragment corrupted by dark red energy. Rigel’s remains also provide the Dark Elf bloodline inheritance that Lynn accepts through the Codex of Origin. When reporting the incident, Lynn omits Rigel’s apparent personal connection to Charlotte to spare her unnecessary trouble. Barton directs the Green Tower to handle the matter’s follow-up, while the cause of Rigel’s mutation remains unresolved 41 42 43.
Appearance
- Original form: A slender, elegant elven body with obsidian-like skin, silver hair, and purple eyes 36 37 40.
- After decapitation: His face appears withered and wrinkled, with blood-matted hair; he visibly carries his severed head back to his neck 37.
- Mutated form: A swollen mass of fused flesh with tumor-like growths, twisted limbs, and legs as thick as elephant hooves. His head, neck, and other organs become indistinguishable 38.
- Voices: Slit-like openings emit Rigel’s voice together with human cries, beast calls, Magic Wolf growls, and Goblin screams 40.
Personality
Rigel’s fixation on Charlotte persists through his transformation. He calls her his bride and treats her alleged agreement to become a vessel as a promise she has broken. Charlotte believes his obsession is strong enough that he would pursue her indefinitely, endangering anyone who stays near her 37 39.
His ritual demonstrates a willingness to sacrifice intelligent beings and animals for his own survival. Even after fatal wounds and decapitation, he continues resisting death, ultimately offering his soul to an unknown entity and attempting an explosion when the party dismantles his transformed body 34 37 40.
Abilities & Skills
Flesh Ritual and Damage Transfer
- Transfers injuries to the living sacrifices making up the surrounding Flesh Rings 35 36.
- Continues functioning despite wounds that would ordinarily be fatal 36.
- The Heart of Nature’s domain interrupts the transfer, although the red power in his heart initially fights back against it 36 41.
- Survives decapitation through his subsequent undead state; removing his heart and draining all remaining mana finally prevents revival 37 41.
Flesh Fusion and Regeneration
- Absorbs sacrificed creatures into his own body, creating a large, physically powerful amalgamation 37 38.
- Rapidly closes deep cuts and redistributes flesh to repair major damage 38 40.
- Detached flesh becomes ownerless because he cannot fully control the fused creatures, leaving it vulnerable to Mana Drain 39.
- Absorbs additional Demonic Beasts to replenish power in a mana-depleted area 40.
Position Exchange
- Exchanges places with nearby plants, distorting them into flesh before appearing in their position 38.
- Also exchanges with a Magic Wolf, confirming that the ability is not limited to vegetation 38.
- Uses these exchanges for pursuit and sudden close-range attacks 38.
Druidic and Light Magic
- Tree Skin Spell — second circle: Hardens his skin into thick bark, particularly effective against thrusting weapons. Lynn’s fire spreads across it, forcing him to dispel the protection 36.
- Dancing Lights — zero-ring cantrip: Creates the magical lights floating above the stone altar 42.
- Darkness — second ring: Creates darkness that natural light cannot disperse; used during his attacks after transformation 43.
Corrupting Blood and Self-Destruction
- Releases a rain of polluted blood as an area attack; Charlotte’s moonlight purifies it 34 39.
- Attempts to accumulate power for an explosion after absorbing two Magic Wolves 40.
- The Heart of Nature halts the swelling and removes the gathered mana from his control before detonation 41.
Equipment / Items
- Stolen Heart of Nature fragment — The relic fragment Rigel took from the Green Tower. After his death, Charlotte recovers a jade-like piece from his abnormal heart, tainted by dark red energy 41 42.
Relationships
- Farino — Former teacher; Rigel was one of his Green Tower disciples before his defection 47.
- Charlotte Fenrir — Senior apprentice sister, pursuer, and object of his obsession. She ultimately kills him by extracting his heart 35 37 41 47.
- Lynn Lowell — Opponent whose Mana Drain undermines Rigel’s regeneration and whose use of the Heart of Nature prevents his self-destruction 39 40 41.
- Celine — Enemy who decapitates him and repeatedly tears flesh from his transformed body 37 39.
- Bound blonde girl — Captive to whom he proposes during the ritual; rescued by Charlotte 34 35.
