Ch. 987Washing Away Ten Thousand Arts to Reveal the True Chapter (Two-in-One)

Plot points and events

  • Liu Dongqing races deeper into the Sumeru Turbulent Flow, pursued at the same pace by a skeletal demon assembled through the forbidden Living Corpse Method.
  • While fleeing, he unleashes a succession of powerful Dao arts and killing techniques. The demon meets them head-on, smashing through his domains and even shattering the Azure Firmament Heavenly Furnace.
  • Liu Dongqing’s attacks seem ineffective against the demon’s enormous reserves of ancient demon remains. The demon mocks him, convinced that he has run out of options.
  • Rather than giving in, Liu Dongqing studies how his techniques fail and realizes the demon’s apparent invulnerability comes from the combined strength of remains accumulated over two Eras of Dao Strife—not from the Living Corpse Method itself.
  • He identifies the method’s weakness: the seams where the ancient remains are joined, where the Living Corpse Method’s Dao art is actively at work.
  • Liu Dongqing stops fleeing and turns to face the demon. He summons the complete, mastered divine resonances of the Innate Thunder of Tremor system, drawing on the myriad Dao arts. The demon senses the sudden danger.

Character developments

  • Liu Dongqing shifts from apparent desperation to controlled insight. He uses each failed attack as information, then devises a strategy that targets the demon’s structural weakness rather than challenging its overwhelming strength.
  • The skeletal demon remains confident and contemptuous, relying on its immense physical power to overwhelm Liu. Its composure falters only when Liu stops running and unleashes the thunder resonances.

Character interactions

  • The demon pursues Liu without losing ground, ridicules his attacks, and taunts him for fleeing.
  • Liu ignores the demon’s words and focuses on understanding its nature. His decision to turn back reverses their dynamic: the hunter’s confidence gives way to unease.
  • Cultivators watching the heavenly screen witness the pursuit and initially fear Liu has been defeated, before seeing him prepare a counterattack.

Significant themes

  • Observation and adaptation: Apparent failure can reveal an opponent’s true weakness.
  • Strength versus technique: Raw power can overwhelm even formidable arts, but understanding how that power is constructed offers another path to victory.
  • A creation’s weakness lies in its making: The Living Corpse Method gives the demon its extraordinary form while also creating its vulnerable seams.
  • Composure under pressure: Liu’s calm concentration allows him to resist both the demon’s attacks and its psychological taunts.

Ch. 988The Tiger Had Fallen onto the Plain, and Its End Was Near

Key plot points and events

  • Liu Dongqing discovers how to counter the seemingly invincible great corpse demon. Its immense body is assembled from countless demon corpses and sacred remains, held together by the Living Corpse Method. Rather than attack its overall mass, Liu uses the Myriad Dharma Heavenly Thunder to sense and strike the seams between its parts.
  • His exceptionally refined [Responding Origin] Dao Fruit Resonance lets him perceive those seams and channel thunder directly into the corpse demon’s body and soul. The assault damages it severely, shrinks its body, and—crucially—makes it afraid.
  • The demon flees north through the Sumeru Turbulent Flow. Liu anticipates its retreat, pursues it, and uses his Resplendent Demonic Voice to inflame its fear and distract it. Each lapse in its concentration gives Liu an opening to strike again, steadily draining its power.
  • As they reach the turbulent flow near the North Sea, the frozen blood-red ancient battlefield comes into view. The demon, now desperate and diminished, declares that it will not accept death at Liu’s hands.

Character developments

  • Liu Dongqing reveals the full extent of his mastery: his thunder perception can expose structural weaknesses in an apparently unified enemy, while his emotional and psychological attacks complement his combat power. His confidence is grounded in careful understanding, not mere bravado.
  • The corpse demon changes from an arrogant, seemingly unstoppable force into a terrified, wounded fugitive. Its fear disrupts its judgment and makes it vulnerable to Liu’s taunts and repeated attacks. Yet its final defiance shows that it has not surrendered.

Character interactions

  • Liu relentlessly mocks the demon, condemning it as an unnatural failure created by forbidden arts. His taunts are not just insults: they intensify the demon’s fear and emotional turmoil, creating openings for further lightning strikes.
  • The demon’s earlier confidence is replaced by panic, flight, and finally an anguished declaration of refusal. Their pursuit becomes a contest of both physical power and psychological endurance.

Significant themes

  • True perception over brute force: Liu wins advantage by seeing the hidden construction of his opponent and targeting its weak points.
  • Fear undermines power: The demon’s formidable body cannot protect it once it realizes it is vulnerable; fear then worsens its ability to fight.
  • The cost of forbidden, unnatural power: Liu frames the corpse demon as evidence of the Living Corpse Method’s failure to overcome the boundary between life and death.
  • Defiance in the face of defeat: Even as the demon’s strength fades, it clings to its identity and refuses to accept its impending end.

Ch. 989Burn Thunder, Refine Blood, Melt Bone to Mud

Key plot points and events

  • The Sumeru Barrier over the North Sea is torn open. Dao Lords from the Blackwater and Heavenly River sects rush into the turbulent flow, while Ji Xiaomeng and Xue Mingfei emerge from Liu Dongqing’s shadow to intercept them.
  • In the Yang World, Zheng Yubing attacks both sects with the Nether Death Heavenly River, forcing their Fortune Clouds to meet her assault.
  • Liu Dongqing taunts the corpse demon for relying on others to save it. In desperation, the demon awakens the savage memories and deathly power embedded in the remains of countless ancient demons, deliberately pushing its Living Corpse Method toward losing control.
  • The demon’s strength surges beyond its earlier peak. It launches a suicidal charge, hoping to kill Liu Dongqing before his thunder can destroy its body, then restore its damaged balance afterward.
  • Realizing ordinary thunder cannot kill the massive demon quickly enough—and that evasion is unlikely—Liu Dongqing devises a more lethal technique. He combines his Four Symbols True Form, Five Elements, orthodox positions, and destructive Dao powers into a vast, thunder-charged Vine Fruit Tree.
  • Its roots and tendrils pierce the demon’s assembled bones and reach into the Living Corpse Method’s underlying Dao foundation. They pry apart the remains and destroy the force holding them together, progressively halting the demon’s charge.
  • The chapter ends as the smoke-shrouded battlefield falls still and a tremendous boom begins, leaving the outcome unresolved.

Character developments

  • Liu Dongqing demonstrates quick, practical battlefield reasoning, turning a seemingly impossible charge into a problem he can solve through adaptation and lethal precision.
  • The corpse demon abandons restraint and clear thought, embracing the blood-soaked fury and desperation of ancient demon remains to make one final attempt at survival.
  • Ji Xiaomeng and Xue Mingfei act decisively as Liu Dongqing’s rear guard, using their distinct anti-demon strengths against the incoming Dao Lords.
  • Zheng Yubing openly enters the wider conflict, expanding the battle beyond the turbulent flow and challenging the sects directly.

Significant themes

  • Desperation and the cost of survival: The corpse demon gains power by sacrificing control and risking total collapse.
  • Adaptation under pressure: Liu Dongqing’s ability to create a new answer in the moment proves as important as raw strength.
  • The legacy of violence: The ancient demons’ final emotions—defiance, courage, and fury—persist in their remains and shape the present battle.
  • Life, death, and unstable balance: The Living Corpse Method depends on opposing forces that the demon’s desperate transformation now threatens to unravel.

Character interactions

  • Liu Dongqing mocks the corpse demon’s dependence on outside rescue; the demon answers with a renewed, near-mindless assault.
  • Ji Xiaomeng and Xue Mingfei confront the sects’ advancing Dao Lords while Liu fights the demon.
  • Zheng Yubing’s attack on the sects creates a parallel front, while Liu and the corpse demon’s contest remains the chapter’s central struggle.

Ch. 990Arsenic, Too, Can Serve as Honey (Double-length chapter, please subscribe!)

Key plot points and events

  • Liu Dongqing destroys the great corpse demon by exploiting the weak dao-resonance seams joining its ancient remains. As the demon’s body breaks apart, its Lunar Yin Void Stillness domain—the deathly mountain formed in the Numinous Void—collapses too, amplifying the attack until the remains are crushed into powder.
  • The demon’s blood, Black Tortoise blood, deathly energies, and remnants of its true spirit combine into a vast sea of blood and dao resonance. Though deadly enough to dissolve Liu’s body and soul, the sea also offers extraordinary nourishment for Lunar Yin Body Refinement.
  • Liu fights the urge to rush into the poisonous sea. Rather than discard it, he devises a way to harvest its useful essence while rejecting its dangers.
  • Using the Vine Fruit Tree, the Medicine King Cauldron, and the Five Aspects Grand Unity Unified Origin Diagram, Liu draws in and refines the sea’s essence into black-red Elixir Fruits. Rot, excessive poison, and the ancient demons’ lingering thoughts are expelled into the Sumeru Turbulent Flow.
  • The remaining dao resonance is cleared from the battlefield. The Black Tortoise Dao Lords retreat, and Liu returns toward the Yang World Domain.
  • Unnoticed, the discarded impurities drift north through the turbulent flow toward the ancient battlefield that pierces the Three Realms.

Character development

  • Liu demonstrates both tactical brilliance and self-control: he recognizes the demon’s structural weakness, then masters his nearly overwhelming greed for a dangerous but valuable opportunity.
  • His long practice of Lunar Yin Body Refinement proves essential. He applies his accumulated insight to devise a method that turns a lethal threat into usable nourishment without taking the greatest risk.

Significant themes

  • Weakness within apparent invulnerability: A small flaw in the demon’s binding resonance brings down a power that seemed unbreakable.
  • Transformation through discernment: Liu distinguishes valuable essence from harmful impurities, turning destruction into cultivation.
  • Temptation and discipline: Great opportunity can also mean mortal danger; success depends on controlling impulse and acting with judgment.
  • Unintended consequences: Though Liu purifies the battlefield, the discarded dross is not eliminated—it is carried toward a significant site, foreshadowing further danger.

Character interactions

  • The central conflict is Liu’s confrontation with the corpse demon, which ends in the demon’s destruction.
  • The Black Tortoise Dao Lords observe the outcome and flee rather than engage Liu.
  • Liu’s interaction with the sea is effectively a struggle between his disciplined judgment and his desire to absorb its immense power.

Ch. 991To Avoid Death, One Must First Die (Two-in-One)

Chapter Summary

Key plot points

  • After returning to the Yang World, Liu Dongqing confronts the Demon Race’s major sects. Their alarmed display of Fortune Clouds and readiness to use powerful ancestral methods suggests they may have spent much of their strength defeating the great corpse demon.
  • Liu considers destroying the Demon Race’s exposed forces immediately, but decides a slower campaign is wiser: strike hard enough to weaken their hidden reserves, then apply sustained pressure until no forces remain concealed.
  • The Spirit Race reaches a major turning point. Four of its cultivators complete their transformations into Spirit Transformation Dao Lords, stabilizing the immense fortune Liu has gathered for their people and giving them a foundation for future growth.
  • Liu returns to the Blessed-Land Domain, where Bai Jianqing studies its vast Dao arts and recognizes the Divine Firmament lineage within the Twenty-Eight Mansions Star Chart.
  • Liu creates an enormous pool of dark-red essence from Elixir Fruits, refining away much of its toxicity and restoring it to a potent Lunar Yin Void Stillness state. He plans to use it for an unconventional form of Lunar Yin Body Refinement rather than simply consuming its energy.
  • To accomplish this, Liu asks Bai to kill him once with her Purple Firmament Divine Thunder. He explains that surviving the strike will let him pass through death and rebirth, absorb the pool’s power rapidly, and help him understand how to incorporate her lightning into the domain’s Four Symbols.
  • Reassured by Liu’s explanation and his declaration that he trusts her above anyone else, Bai agrees.

Character developments and interactions

  • Liu Dongqing shows himself to be both strategically patient and intensely ambitious. Rather than pursue a quick victory against the Demon Race, he chooses to draw out and eliminate its hidden strength over time. He also reveals confidence in his secret ability to survive death, while entrusting Bai with a dangerous role in his cultivation.
  • Bai Jianqing gains a clearer sense of how far Liu’s mastery surpasses that of other cultivators. Her awe and insecurity give way to emotional closeness when he tells her that he trusts her most. She accepts the responsibility of striking him, despite her initial fear.
  • Their interaction moves from Bai’s silent admiration of Liu’s domain to a personal exchange in which he comforts her, explains his plan, and asks for her help. Her final embrace and agreement affirm their mutual trust.

Significant themes

  • Patience and completeness: Liu favors a measured campaign over a dramatic but incomplete victory, determined to uncover and destroy hidden threats.
  • Transformation through death: Liu’s planned refinement depends on passing through death and returning to life, reflecting the chapter’s central paradox that survival may require first dying.
  • Trust and vulnerability: Liu’s willingness to place his life in Bai’s hands deepens their bond and turns a technical cultivation plan into a test of trust.
  • Collective renewal: The Spirit Race’s new Dao Lords symbolize the successful consolidation of fortune and the possibility of lasting growth for an entire people.

Ch. 992Slay the Old Self, Bring the New Self to Life (Two Chapters in One—Please Subscribe!)

Plot points and events

  • Liu Dongqing oversees Bai Jianqing’s effort to gather enough Purple Firmament Divine Thunder to destroy his Heavenly Demon Primordial Spirit. He feeds her precious source power, then refined incense material, pushing her lightning beyond her normal limits.
  • On Liu’s signal, Bai unleashes the torrent. Liu suppresses his defenses and lets it strike him, destroying his Primordial Spirit and bursting his body into blood and qi.
  • His perfected [Double Radiance] Dao fruit activates, drawing the scattered essence toward rebirth. But because Liu’s remains have merged into the immense sea of blood, the process stalls: his new form is neither fully assembled nor fully alive.
  • While suspended between death and rebirth, Liu’s consciousness survives and envelops the sea. He invokes his perfected [Ji Earth] Dao fruit and the Nine-Infant Earth Mother Myriad Spirits Diagram, spreading Primordial Mother True Light through the blood.
  • Liu uses what he knows of Lunar Yin Body Refinement—not the Dao of Taiyin Void Stillness itself—to awaken and circulate the sea’s dormant Dao resonance. He aims to transform the blood sea into a source that will nourish a new Heavenly Demon Primordial Spirit.
  • As the transformation builds, Liu activates his perfected [Pure Yang] Dao fruit. The chapter ends with the entire blood sea igniting in a tremendous explosion.

Character developments and interactions

  • Liu Dongqing demonstrates extraordinary preparation and control: he deliberately engineers his apparent death, then uses his surviving consciousness and several Dao fruits to guide his own rebirth. He relies on Bai’s strength but also takes responsibility for directing the dangerous process.
  • Bai Jianqing is pushed past her limits. Though her lightning becomes difficult to control and leaves her physically and spiritually drained, she follows Liu’s signal and delivers the attack.
  • Chen Ange mocks Bai’s trembling and questions her ability, insulting Zhuang Wanqing by comparison. Zhuang curls her lip but has no chance to respond before the attack proceeds.
  • Liu and Bai’s cooperation is central: she supplies the lethal force, while he accepts it intentionally to trigger his transformation.

Significant themes

  • Death as transformation: Liu turns destruction into a planned passage toward renewal.
  • Unity through resonance: The rebirth depends on linking different forces—blood, primordial light, Lunar Yin cultivation, and multiple Dao fruits.
  • Control amid danger: Liu’s scheme requires Bai to approach the edge of losing control, while he himself must endure a state between life and death.
  • Yin giving birth to yang: The blood sea is meant to refine extreme yin into yang, symbolizing a new self emerging from apparent annihilation.

Ch. 993Four Symbols and Five Elements, Accomplished in One Stroke

Liu Dongqing used the sea of demon corpse blood to refine his new self and generate immense quantities of the essence of the natural ten thousand daos. He directed that essence into the four symbols and seven lodges domain, bringing several Dao Fruit Resonances to full mastery as Zhuang Wanqing anticipated the rise of a formidable practitioner.

  • Liu Dongqing joined lunar yin body refinement with the sea of blood’s taiyin resonance and the [pure yang] aura to cleanse blood essence and feed it into the heavenly demon primordial spirit’s true-form diagram.
  • The influx of essence of the natural ten thousand daos accelerated the [boundless vital essence], [boundless qi essence], and [boundless divine origin] Dao Fruit Resonances, then flowed into Liu Dongqing’s Dao arts foundations.
  • Liu Dongqing chose to direct the essence first into the four symbols and seven lodges domain, whose bloodline origins accorded with the myriad demons in the sea of blood.
  • The four symbols’ jubilant resonances swelled, and the [boundless vital essence] and [boundless divine origin] Dao Fruit Resonances reached full mastery, followed by [boundless qi essence].
  • The [azure dragon symbol], [vermilion bird symbol], [white tiger symbol], and [black tortoise symbol] Dao Fruit Resonances also reached full mastery.
  • Zhuang Wanqing told Chen Ange that Senior Brother would inevitably incorporate Little Sister Xiaobai as a Dharma Form true form and predicted that she alone would be enough to suppress all demons.

Ch. 994Demonic Thunder Diagram, Celestial Empyrean (double-length chapter)

Liu Dongqing completed the transformation of his Body-Soul Three Origins and drove the Four Symbols and Seven Lodges Dao-art domain into rapid growth. He devised a new Celestial Empyrean path for Bai Jianqing and forged four Spirit Thunder Dao Fruit Resonances, prompting Chen Ange to challenge the new lightning arts.

  • Liu Dongqing’s three Dao Fruit Resonances united as [Three Origins Immeasurable], transforming his body and soul and completing his Heavenly Demon Primordial Spirit’s initial accomplishment.
  • The completed [Three Origins Immeasurable] opened a wider passage for Essence of the Natural Ten Thousand Daos to flood the Four Symbols and Seven Lodges domain, where the [Horn Wood Dragon] Dao Fruit Resonance reached full maturity.
  • Liu Dongqing explained that Bai Jianqing should build a Celestial Empyrean Dao-art domain by combining the Four Symbols and Seven Lodges, the Primordial Four Truths, and Four Symbols Spirit Thunder; Bai Jianqing agreed to follow his arrangements.
  • Liu Dongqing used Bai Jianqing’s Purple Firmament Divine Thunder as a catalyst to awaken thunder-aspected demon bloodlines in the sea of blood and transform their demonic nature into spiritual nature.
  • The [Azure Dragon Spirit Thunder], [Vermilion Bird Spirit Thunder], [White Tiger Spirit Thunder], and [Black Tortoise Spirit Thunder] Dao Fruit Resonances were born, and Chen Ange declared that only one supreme master of lightning arts could exist in Liu Dongqing’s Blessed-Land Domain.

Ch. 995Sensing the Yuanchen to Seek the Old Site (Double chapter, please subscribe!)

Key events

  • Liu Dongqing uses the torrent of essence from the natural ten thousand Daos to bring several Dao systems toward mastery. The Four Symbols and Seven Lodges domain completes first, followed by Yin-Yang Five Elements and the linked Heavenly Stems and Earthly Branches.
  • As the torrent dwindles, he redirects its remaining flow into the six Metal Nayin Dao Fruit Resonances, which also reach mastery. The enormous reservoir is ultimately emptied.
  • The perfected Heavenly Stems and Earthly Branches amplify the Ten-Direction Sword Dao Killing Formation and Twelve Yuanchen Bone Swords, while also strengthening the Sexagenary Life-Slaying Dao Fruit Resonance.
  • Bai Jianqing enters the newly perfected starry domain to study its Dao rhythms and prepare to change her Dao arts and attain Liu Dongqing’s Dharma Form.
  • Lunar Yin Body Refinement concludes. Liu Dongqing emerges with a strengthened body, marrow, innate gifts, and Heavenly Demon Primordial Spirit. His insight into Daoist arts becomes extraordinarily clear.
  • He leaves the Blessed-Land Domain and moves through the Sumeru Turbulent Flow with remarkable speed and control, reaching a region accessible only to an Ascendant Profound Cave-Heaven Lord.
  • There, he combines the accomplished Responding Origin and Sensing Origin resonances with the Earthly Branches resonance, then sends their heightened perception outward toward the void.

Character developments and interactions

  • Liu Dongqing demonstrates strategic judgment in allocating scarce Dao essence, choosing Metal Nayin over the Innate Eight Trigrams because it promises greater returns. His refinement leaves him both vastly stronger and more agile, with an unprecedented capacity for sudden insight.
  • Bai Jianqing begins the demanding process of adapting to Liu Dongqing’s cultivation system. Her respectful farewell signals trust and commitment, while her next step is independent study and preparation.
  • Liu Dongqing and Bai Jianqing interact briefly but meaningfully: he has created the conditions for her transformation, and she acknowledges this before pursuing the work herself.

Significant themes

  • Efficiency and resource allocation: Liu Dongqing continually redirects a diminishing supply of Dao essence toward the systems most likely to benefit from it.
  • Accumulation and breakthrough: Long-cultivated foundations, linked Dao resonances, and a timely influx of resources combine to produce sweeping mastery.
  • Transformation with control: Liu Dongqing’s immense physical and spiritual growth does not make him clumsy; it gives him power alongside precision and agility.
  • Perception and discovery: The chapter ends by shifting from cultivation and completion to heightened sensing, suggesting Liu Dongqing is about to uncover something in the distant void.

Ch. 996White Bone Jade Inscription Cave-Heaven Immortal (Two chapters in one)

Key plot points and events

  • Liu Dongqing searches the Sumeru Turbulent Flow for the Yuanchen Grotto-Heaven, using his Dao Fruit Resonances to detect the familiar white-bone aura.
  • He finds the Cave-Heaven concealed behind a veil of turbulent flow. It has grown into a true Ascendant Profound Realm, but remains unstable: a flaw in its walls leaks white-bone baleful qi, and Sumeru Storms could eventually destroy it.
  • Liu attempts to contact the Cave-Heaven through a resonance linked to the Twelve Yuanchen Bone Swords. Although it responds, it does not open to him.
  • Concluding that its occupant may be in serious trouble, Liu uses the old fissure—the passage through which he and others once escaped—to return to the Cave-Heaven.
  • Inside, he crosses the ruined landscape to the central temple and finds Ding Ruojun seated in meditation as a Cave-Heaven True Embryo. Liu recognizes that Ding is incomplete but believes he can help restore him.

Character developments

  • Liu Dongqing is shown as confident, skilled, and resourceful, but also deeply concerned for Ding. Memories of their past return as he re-enters the Cave-Heaven, revealing the personal weight of the search.
  • Ding Ruojun appears transformed into a Cave-Heaven True Embryo, with a seal-script character between his brows. His condition is incomplete, though Liu sees hope in it and believes only a small intervention may be needed.

Significant themes

  • Impermanence and instability: The Cave-Heaven’s apparent stillness masks its constant movement and growing danger.
  • Life and death, yin and yang: Liu interprets the Cave-Heaven’s incompleteness—and Ding’s—as a cycle that has not yet been finished, suggesting that death may contain the means of renewal.
  • Persistence and connection: Liu’s determination to find Ding carries him through formidable hazards and back to a place marked by their shared past.
  • Flawed creation and survival: The Cave-Heaven’s original defect remains despite its growth, showing how old wounds can persist even as something becomes stronger.

Character interactions

  • Liu’s attempts to contact the Cave-Heaven are effectively attempts to reach Ding, but the first, gentler calls receive no invitation.
  • After finding Ding, Liu addresses him as “Little Ding” and identifies himself as his senior brother, framing the reunion as both a rescue and a renewed bond.

Ch. 997Peaceful Joy and a Gift of Inherited Blessings (Two Chapters in One—Please Subscribe!)

Key plot points and events

  • Liu Dongqing studies Ding Ruojun’s Cave-Heaven True Embryo and, through an inspired insight into yin-yang and the cycle of life and death, devises a way to restore Ding’s body and complete his Cave-Heaven Immortal foundation.
  • He uses Myriad Dharma Heavenly Thunder, infused with the principles of birth, destruction, yin, and yang, to extinguish Ding’s lingering vitality and then kindle his undying true spirit. Ding’s jade-like body is refined back into living flesh, and his divine and immortal foundations merge with the Yuanchen Grotto-Heaven.
  • Ding awakens as the Cave-Heaven Immortal of his domain. Liu explains that, although Ding has regained his foundation and attained the grotto-heaven’s power, he cannot return to ordinary immortal cultivation or reach the Ascendant Profound Realm.
  • Ding welcomes this fate: it grants him eight thousand years of peace, and he may later leave the domain and seek the Dao again through transmigration.
  • Ding recounts the despair of being trapped in the grotto-heaven as it drifted through the Mystic Void, believing he would die alone and that his sect’s inheritance would vanish. He now sees the Demon Refining Mystic Sect’s revival and the Bone Sword Lineage’s future as a dream fulfilled.
  • In gratitude, Ding offers Liu a jade flask containing the Bone Sword Lineage’s last inherited legacy. Liu notices something unexpected about it, ending the chapter on a moment of discovery.

Character developments and interactions

  • Liu Dongqing demonstrates extraordinary insight and care, turning his accumulated understanding into a method that saves Ding and completes his cultivation foundation. He is frank about the limits of what he can change.
  • Ding Ruojun awakens from a long, lonely near-death state and greets Liu first as his senior brother. Rather than mourn his restricted future, he embraces his new status with gratitude and hope.
  • Their exchange moves from Liu’s practical explanation of Ding’s limitations to Ding’s heartfelt account of fear, loss, and renewed confidence. Ding credits Liu with saving not only their lives but also their sect and its legacy.

Significant themes

  • Life, death, and transformation: Ding’s renewal comes through the paradoxical passage from vitality into deathly stillness and back to life.
  • Acceptance and freedom: Ding finds contentment in a path he once could not have imagined, recognizing that a peaceful, finite life can still offer future possibility.
  • Inheritance and continuity: The sect’s survival and the Bone Sword Lineage’s legacy connect past founders, present disciples, and future generations.
  • Brotherhood and gratitude: Liu’s rescue restores Ding’s hope, while Ding’s offering entrusts Liu with a legacy he believes belongs in his hands.

Ch. 999Heaven-Bearing Karma-Slaying Found Its Heir (Double-length chapter, please subscribe!)

Key plot points and events

  • Ding Ruojun explains the Bone Sword Lineage’s ancestral master and his creation of the embryonic Heaven-Bearing Karma-Slaying Dao Fruit. In the Age of Gloom, the ancestral master prioritized forming and refining a Dao Fruit over immediate strength, choosing a numinous, spiritual path that the hostile world was more likely to permit.
  • The fruit arose from the ancestral master’s progression through the Four Graves Nether Soil and Twelve Yuanchen Dao: exploring life and death, the true spirit of all beings, and the connections between celestial timing, heavenly workings, and individual destiny.
  • The fruit was conceived as more than a weapon of death. It could strike at a being’s undying true spirit, but, with sufficiently deep foundations, could also bestow life, impart Dao resonance, or even change someone’s fate.
  • The ancestral master’s attempt to establish a Cave-Heaven failed at the final stage, killing him and leaving the Dao Fruit incomplete. His death briefly reforged and strengthened it, but he never had the resources to finish it. The fruit and its jade-flask vessel consequently became separate.
  • Ding offers the flask to Liu Dongqing, arguing that Liu is uniquely suited to complete the ancestral master’s work: he is a Spirit Transformation Dao Lord, has abundant resources, and has mastered both the Twelve Yuanchen Bone Swords and a form of the Four Graves Nether Soil Dao.
  • Liu accepts after reflecting on the ancestral master’s brilliance and his own complicated feelings of regret, admiration, and relief that they did not live in the same era. He then drinks the flask dry.
  • The nectar’s power surges through Liu’s spirit and Dao foundations, appearing at the source of his Great One Diagram.

Character developments and interactions

  • Ding Ruojun acts as the ancestral master’s interpreter and as the one entrusting the legacy to Liu. His confidence in Liu is explicit: he believes no one is better suited to inherit and complete the Dao Fruit.
  • Liu Dongqing moves from astonishment and reverence to personal recognition. He sees how his past—his connection to the Innate Sacred Sect, rebuilding the Demon Refining Mystic Sect, and conflict with the Myriad Phenomena Sword Sect—intersects with the ancestral master’s legacy. He accepts the inheritance without hesitation once his reflections are complete.
  • Their interaction is marked by Ding’s patient explanation and quiet support, contrasted with Liu’s emotional response and eventual decisive action.

Significant themes

  • Inheritance and destiny: The Dao Fruit links the ancestral master’s long-dead achievement to Liu’s present path, though the chapter acknowledges that Liu’s life was shaped by many people and his own choices—not fate alone.
  • Life and death as one continuum: The Dao Fruit embodies both destruction and renewal, with the power to kill, grant vitality, and alter destiny.
  • The cost of ambition: The ancestral master nearly achieved a world-defying breakthrough but died when he could not withstand heaven and earth.
  • Admiration, regret, and rivalry: Liu mourns never having met the ancestral master, while recognizing that sharing an era with such a prodigy might have brought crushing pressure.
  • The culmination of prior choices: Liu’s cultivation, sect history, and conflicts now appear as steps along a path leading toward this inheritance.

Ch. 1000The Dao Aligned in Wondrous Harmony, His Resolve Still Firm

Summary

Liu Dongqing receives the [Heaven-Bearing Karma-Slaying] embryonic dao fruit within the Great One Diagram. Though he expected its power to overwhelm him, he discovers it is still only an early, sparsely developed form, with Dao power around the Spirit Transformation level. Its quality, however, is extraordinary: unlike ordinary dao fruit resonances, which are reflections of true dao fruits, this is an actual dao fruit embryo.
Liu recognizes that [Heaven-Bearing Karma-Slaying] could let him threaten opponents far above his realm. It traces a target’s heavenly timing, spiritual inspiration, and fate through their connection to the natural world’s myriad Daos, forming a pathway to their undying true spirit. Because a stronger cultivator has a deeper resonance with the Dao, the sword may bypass Dao Lord domains and even Cave-Heaven barriers. Liu believes he could likely wound an Ascendant Profound Cave-Heaven Lord, though killing one remains beyond his current foundations.
As the embryo merges with him, Liu examines its compatibility with his existing powers and finds that it harmonizes with them exceptionally well. The Great One Diagram already unites the four graves nether soil, the Twelve Yuanchen Bone Swords, and many of Liu’s Dao fields, including the Four Symbols and Seven Lodges, Eight Trigrams, Nayin Five Elements, Heavenly Stems and Earthly Branches, and the life-and-death principles of [Double Radiance] and [Taiyin]. His own path of mortal enlightenment—Wanqing’s ten thousand households’ lights—offers an especially fitting way to sense individuals within the wider world.
The embryonic dao fruit also urges Liu to merge with [Sexagenary Life-Slaying], his own long-nurtured dao fruit resonance. The two powers share a common origin, and combining them now would quickly strengthen the embryo. But the fusion would consume [Sexagenary Life-Slaying], erasing its independent existence and potentially wasting mysteries it has yet to reveal. Liu decides to preserve both and consider a balanced fusion only after each has reached its full potential, with [Myriad Phenomena Worshipping Truth] assisting.

Character development and themes

Liu moves from cautious anticipation to clear confidence in the new power, while remaining sober about the limits of his current strength. He also asserts his independence from the revered ancestor: rather than letting his own Dao become fuel for the ancestor’s legacy, he wants both paths to develop on their own terms. Their eventual comparison will serve as a silent exchange about the Dao across time and death.
Key themes include the distinction between a Dao’s true substance and its reflection, the importance of patience and unrealized potential, harmony among different Dao paths, and the tension between inheriting a predecessor’s achievement and establishing one’s own.

Ch. 1002Sixfold Divine Embryo Refinement Unites the Three Yangs (Two chapters in one-please subscribe!)

Liu Dongqing completed Sixfold Divine Embryo Refinement and discovered that several Dao Fruit Resonances had reached great mastery, while the embryonic [Heaven-Bearing Karma-Slaying] Dao Fruit remained hungry. He went to the Pure Yang Sword Sect to test the sword’s life-giving power and help Song Lingxi master [Three Yangs Heralding Prosperity].

  • Liu Dongqing anchored the Yuanchen Grotto-Heaven to the Demon Refining Mystic Sect’s Fortune Cloud through the Eight-Palace Formation Diagram, strengthening the sect’s protection and fortune.
  • Liu Dongqing returned to his Blessed-Land Domain and used the remaining Ancient God Incense to cultivate alongside Bai Jianqing, who studied the Celestial Empyrean’s Dao resonance.
  • After prolonged seclusion and six-nine heavenly lightning, Liu Dongqing attained Sixfold Divine Embryo Refinement and brought [Steadfast Origin], [Net Origin], and [Myriad Phenomena Worshipping Truth] to great mastery.
  • Liu Dongqing realized that the embryonic [Heaven-Bearing Karma-Slaying] Dao Fruit could grant life as well as kill, and decided to test it without exposing its slaughtering power.
  • Liu Dongqing arrived at the Pure Yang Sword Sect and told Song Lingxi that his new method could help her master [Three Yangs Heralding Prosperity].

Ch. 1004Pure Yang Ascended to Redcloud Heaven (Double-Length Chapter, Please Subscribe!)

Liu Dongqing helped Song Lingxi unify her three yang Dao Fruit resonances into the lasting [Three Yangs Heralding Prosperity], awakening its transformative mysteries and vast potential. After Song Lingxi began exploring her new Dao fire, Bai Jianqing approached Liu Dongqing and asked him to impart the Celestial Empyrean’s Dao resonance to her.

  • Liu Dongqing’s demonstration overwhelmed Song Lingxi, who watched as [Myriad Phenomena Worshipping Truth] linked her [Heaven Yang], [Ultimate Yang], and [Pure Yang] resonances into one.
  • The unified resonance awakened [Three Yangs Heralding Prosperity], allowing Song Lingxi’s crimson crow dao fire to absorb yang-aspect qi and refine it into pure yang nature.
  • Liu Dongqing withdrew his Dao Fruit power, while Song Lingxi remained in his arms and tested the new resonance by dividing and recombining the three yangs in her palm.
  • Song Lingxi considered how her new Dao Fruit resonance could expand the Pure Yang Sword Sect’s teachings, but thought the sect was not yet ready for a resurgence.
  • Bai Jianqing met Liu Dongqing and asked him to impart the Celestial Empyrean’s Dao resonance using the sword strike he had used to teach the Returning Goose Candle-Holding Dao Lord.

Ch. 1006Abandon Form, Refine Essence, Perfect the Supreme One (Double chapter-please subscribe!)

Liu Dongqing and Bai Jianqing began merging their Blessed-Land Domains, but his perfected domain could not absorb her foundations normally. Bai Jianqing abandoned her old domain and Spirit Treasures to root her essence in his sky, where she reforged her Dao foundations into the great-accomplishment [Celestial Empyrean] Dao Fruit Resonance; the chapter ended as the radiant Heavenly River cracked under the Eight Trigrams storm.

  • Bai Jianqing's Blessed-Land Domain manifested as a river of spiritual radiance and struck the boundary of Liu Dongqing's perfected Blessed-Land Domain, but the Eight Trigrams storm sealed it out.
  • Bai Jianqing sent a small portion of her domain's essence into Liu Dongqing's sky, unifying its celestial regions and stars, then abandoned her old domain and the outward forms of her Great Accomplishment Spirit Treasures.
  • Bai Jianqing plunged into the Evil Origin Tower's Origin Blood Pool, where the Ancient Whole-Household Ascension Method reshaped her Dao Lord Primordial Spirit into a Heavenly Demon Primordial Spirit and restored her Unity of Heaven and Humanity.
  • Bai Jianqing's accumulated foundations entered Liu Dongqing's forty layers of Dao Fruit Resonance, and Liu Dongqing cooperated by manifesting the Great One Diagram.
  • Bai Jianqing unified her formerly distinct Dao arts into the great-accomplishment [Celestial Empyrean] Dao Fruit Resonance.
  • The Ancient Whole-Household Ascension Method's summoning power surged outward as the Eight Trigrams storm tightened around the radiant Heavenly River, and the river cracked.

Ch. 1007The Heavenly River Collapsed, the Profound Overwhelmed the Sacred (Two in One)

Bai Jianqing completed her transformation into a true Dharma Form, while the Eight Trigrams storm absorbed part of her former Blessed-Land Domain and scattered the rest as fragments through the Clear Void Spirit World. When Bai Jianqing arrived in Heavenly Origin Valley, Zhuang Wanqing and Chen Ange triggered conflicting instincts and memories in her, and a quarrel erupted as Liu Dongqing watched helplessly.

  • The Eight Trigrams storm dismantled roughly a third of Bai Jianqing's Heavenly River of spiritual light and merged it into the expanding Eight Trigrams Source Domain.
  • The remaining river split into fragments that drifted through the Clear Void Spirit World, where their vitality and Dao resonance began to wither.
  • Bai Jianqing descended into Heavenly Origin Valley as a true Dharma Form, and Zhuang Wanqing's appearance made her revert to a meek, deferential manner.
  • Chen Ange arrived, and Bai Jianqing instinctively rebuked her as a demoness after inherited memories from Zhuang Wanqing's illusions stirred old hostility.
  • Zhuang Wanqing pushed Bai Jianqing toward Chen Ange and challenged her to fight alongside their allies, while Liu Dongqing pleaded for them to stop.

Ch. 1008Secretly Crossing to Chencang, Witnessing a Sexagenary Cycle (Double-length chapter, please subscribe!)

After Bai Jianqing’s victory in the Holy Profound War, Liu Dongqing assembled Spirit Transformation Dao Lords to enter a newly opened Ancient Divine Dao Realm Fragment, then withdrew to watch for hidden threats. His scrutiny detected a sudden change in fortune linked to Dao Lord Luo of the Moral Immortal Sect’s Heavenly Heart Dao and the Jiazi Path, so he entered the Arcane Vision Realm.

  • Bai Jianqing won the Holy Profound War for the Mystic Gate after turning against allies in her frenzied fighting state.
  • Liu Dongqing gathered Spirit Transformation Dao Lords from allied sects when a Sumeru Passage to an Ancient Divine Dao Realm Fragment opened in the Illusory Marsh.
  • Liu Dongqing sent Chen Ange, Zhuang Wanqing, and Bai Jianqing with the group to oversee the exploration while he returned to the Yang World to monitor its fortunes for signs of the Demon Race.
  • Liu Dongqing used his Nayin Five Elements Path to watch the Yang World and sensed a swift change in spiritual opportunity when Bai Jianqing condensed a Chronology Crystal.
  • Liu Dongqing identified the change as the Jiazi Path’s aura of heavenly fate and spiritual opportunity, traced it to Dao Lord Luo of the Moral Immortal Sect’s Heavenly Heart Dao, and entered the Arcane Vision Realm.
