Background / History

Frieza was responsible for Planet Vegeta's destruction and the Saiyans' near-extermination, ruling over Vegeta and other surviving Saiyans through fear for decades 3 7 8. He also carries a historical fear of Namek's Dragon Balls and Super Saiyans; Ji Ming tells him that Frieza's ancestors once suffered defeat on Namek at the hands of a godly power 13 17.

During the Namek conflict, Frieza secretly sent an audio message to Ize's mother after signing his surrender document. In it, he stated that he had survived and been placed in a healing chamber, and that “the child won't have to fight anymore” 115.
