Sunlight poured through the damaged dome, golden dust swirling and rising within the beams inside the Sea God Pavilion.
Mu En stood with his hands behind his back, his upright figure blocking most of the glaring light.
He lowered his head and examined his hands. His bones were well-proportioned, his blood and qi abundant, and vast vitality surged and roared through his meridians.
This body had not only returned to its peak, but under the cleansing of the laws left behind by the Goddess of Light, his light attribute had advanced even further.
Yun Yi withdrew his martial soul, and the tricolored divine mark between his brows slowly faded beneath his fair skin.
He let out a long breath of stale air and looked up at the peerless powerhouse before him, whose pressure towered over all.
"Grandpa Mu." Yun Yi spoke, his tone carrying a hint of hesitation.
Mu En's expression turned slightly solemn, and he raised a hand to stop him from using that form of address.
He strode steadily over to Yun Yi, his gaze sweeping across the boy's smooth forehead as he said in a deep voice:
"You must not address me like that again. You bear the inheritances of three deities. I am but an ordinary mortal; if I shamelessly claimed to be your elder, I would surely incur heavenly wrath and divine punishment. The majesty of deities cannot be overstepped by mortals."
Yun Yi was briefly taken aback and asked, "Then what identity should I take? Should I tell others that I am a distinguished guest of the Sea God Pavilion?"
"That would not do." Mu En rejected it without hesitation.
"You are still young. Without a reasonable identity to protect you, the various powers will surely probe and covet you, openly and in secret. The tallest tree in the forest catches the wind first. You need the great tree that is Shrek Academy to shield you from the storms."
Mu En frowned deeply, rapidly weighing various solutions in his mind.
Take him as a direct disciple?
The moment that thought surfaced, Mu En ruthlessly crushed it.
The Goddess of Light had bestowed divine grace upon him, cleansing his body of its old afflictions and even granting him the fortune to become a god.
He had yet to properly express his boundless gratitude. How could he dare take a deity's successor as his own disciple?
Would that not mean taking an enormous advantage of all three deities for nothing?
After pondering for a long while, a sharp gleam flashed in Mu En's eyes.
"My teacher has long since passed away. Today, within this Sea God Pavilion, I shall accept a disciple on my teacher's behalf!" Mu En declared, each word ringing with force.
"From this day onward, you will be my, Mu En's, junior martial brother. You need only call me Senior Brother. That way, it will neither offend divine majesty nor prevent you from rightfully receiving core access privileges within the Sea God Pavilion."
Accepting a disciple on his teacher's behalf?
A towering wave instantly surged through Yun Yi's heart.
He knew the seniority structure from the original story. Mu En was the Dragon God Douluo and the current Master of the Sea God Pavilion.
As Mu En's junior martial brother, he would be an ancestor-level figure throughout all of Shrek Academy!
Yan Shaozhe, the current dean of the Martial Soul Department, Xian Lin'er, the dean of the Soul Tool Department, and even that unruly Taotie Douluo, Xuan Zi, would have to swallow their pride and call him Junior Uncle-Master!
He had maxed out his seniority right from the start.
The corners of Yun Yi's mouth could not stop rising. He cupped his fists in salute and said crisply, "I will follow Senior Brother's arrangements."
Seeing Yun Yi accept it so calmly, Mu En could not help but laugh.
He turned to look at the main seat that represented the Sea God Pavilion's highest authority.
For an instant, the thought of grooming Yun Yi as the Sea God Pavilion's next successor crossed his mind.
But it vanished just as quickly.
Train him to inherit the Sea God Pavilion?
Yun Yi was destined to inherit a godhood and ascend to the Divine Realm in the future.
This tiny pond that was the Douluo Continent could never contain a heavenly dragon capable of swallowing the skies.
All Shrek Academy could do was devote the strength of the entire academy to paving his path before he matured, thereby forging this bond of goodwill.
"Now that your identity has been settled, it is time to let the old fellows in the pavilion meet you." With a sweep of his sleeve, Mu En transformed his vast light Soul Power into a massive golden pillar that shot straight toward the trunk of the Golden Tree deep within the Sea God Pavilion.
Clang—
A deep, resonant bell toll spread from within the Golden Tree.
The bell could not be heard outside, yet it rang with flawless precision within the spiritual seas of every elder of the Sea God Pavilion.
This was the Sea God Pavilion's highest-level summons!
Before the bell's echoes had faded, continuous whistles of air being torn apart sounded outside the Sea God Pavilion.
Boom!
The heavy wooden doors were roughly shoved open. A disheveled figure entered, clutching a large purplish-red gourd. His beard and hair stood on end, his eyes bloodshot. It was none other than the Taotie Douluo, Xuan Zi.
The moment Xuan Zi stepped inside, he collided head-on with the scorching heatwave and biting chill that had not yet fully dispersed from the air.
He looked around and saw the damaged dome overhead, with scorch marks and frost intertwined across the floor.
The specially made wheelchair that had once belonged to Mu En had already been reduced to dust.
At the center of the ruins stood a black-haired middle-aged man who seemed both unfamiliar and strangely familiar, with a six-year-old child standing beside him.
Where did Elder Mu go?!
Just as Xuan Zi was about to erupt with Soul Power and force the black-haired middle-aged man to answer—
A long, powerful hand with distinct knuckles silently settled onto Xuan Zi's wrist.
"Xuan Zi, that habit of yours of losing your head whenever something happens truly has not changed at all."
A mellow voice tinged with helplessness sounded clearly beside Xuan Zi's ear.
Brilliant golden radiance bloomed from that hand.
The pure aura of the Radiant Holy Dragon transformed into an insurmountable wall of sighs, forcibly suppressing the Soul Power circulating within Xuan Zi's body.
Xuan Zi felt an immense, irresistible force crash into him. He was shoved backward more than a dozen steps, gasping heavily before he barely managed to steady himself.
He abruptly raised his head and stared fixedly at the black-haired man before him.
The same source aura, the same manner of speaking, the same divine bearing of the Radiant Holy Dragon.
Only that battered, hunched shell steeped in deathly energy had become this powerful body brimming with vitality and bearing peerless pressure.
"Mu... Elder Mu?!" Xuan Zi's eyes nearly popped from their sockets. His jaw hung half-open, and the purplish-red gourd he treasured above all else fell with a clatter onto his foot. Yet he felt nothing, his entire body frozen in utter shock.
Just then, another series of dense air-piercing sounds came from outside.
Yan Shaozhe, Xian Lin'er, Qian Duoduo, Song Lao... the Sea God Pavilion's elders had all gathered here.
Their robes fluttered violently, Soul Power surging around them.
But the moment they rushed into the room and saw the sight before them, every single one of them froze in place.
The room fell deathly silent, broken only by the heavy, rapid breathing rising and falling around them.
Yan Shaozhe stared fixedly at the man standing in the center with his hands behind his back.
That jet-black hair, that spine straight as a spear, and that peerless bearing that commanded awe without anger.
This was clearly the Dragon God Douluo from decades ago, the man who had dominated his era with unmatched brilliance and vigor!
"Teacher..." Yan Shaozhe's voice trembled violently. His knees went weak, and he nearly fell to the ground.
He rubbed his eyes hard, terrified that this was merely an illusion created by an enemy.
Xian Lin'er covered her lips, her eyes instantly reddening as tears welled within them.
Qian Duoduo even fiercely pinched his own thigh and sucked in a sharp breath.
They knew better than anyone how severe Mu En's injuries had been.
Even the Golden Tree of the Sea God Pavilion could only barely prolong his life.
Yet now, that old man in the twilight of his years, who could only cling to life from a wheelchair, had been reborn. His blood and qi were so vigorous that they even surpassed everyone present!
Mu En's gentle gaze swept over the elders, each wearing a different expression, while a composed smile rested on his lips.
He did not rush to explain the changes in his body. Instead, he turned sideways and brought Yun Yi, who had been standing beside him, forward.
"What are you all standing there in a daze for?" Mu En's voice was full of vigor as it reverberated throughout the Sea God Pavilion, making everyone's eardrums tingle.
"I summoned you here today not merely to let you see this reborn body of mine."
He pointed at Yun Yi beside him, his expression becoming solemn and grave.
"Let me introduce him. This is Yun Yi, the final disciple I have accepted on my teacher's behalf." Mu En's gaze was sharp as torches, and his piercing eyes deliberately lingered on Xuan Zi and Yan Shaozhe for a moment.
"From now on, he is my, Mu En's, junior martial brother. As for how you should address him according to seniority, you had better know it in your hearts."
The moment those words fell, another bolt of heavenly thunder struck the minds of the Sea God Pavilion elders, who were already overwhelmed with shock.
Xuan Zi looked at the spirited Mu En, then turned to look at the six-year-old child before him. The corner of his mouth twitched uncontrollably.
Yan Shaozhe was struck dumb as if by lightning, his entire body rigid.
His teacher's junior martial brother?
Did that not mean that this little brat, whose hair had barely grown in, had instantly become the highest-ranking person in all of Shrek Academy?
He, the dignified dean of the Martial Soul Department and a Super Douluo, would have to respectfully bow to this six-year-old child in the future and call him Junior Uncle-Master?!
