An hour later.
Ding dong.
The doorbell rang.
Opening the door, a handsome middle-aged man in a suit appeared at the entrance.
"Hello, Mr. Parker," Tony Stark greeted with a smile, appearing friendly and not at all the condescending, shrewd, and malicious capitalist that Shadow Spider-Man remembered.
"Hello, Mr. Stark," Peter replied after a slight pause, nodding and stepping aside to let Tony Stark in.
Tony Stark glanced at Peter with surprise.
He hadn't been paying attention to Peter for just a day or two. He had noticed his existence around the time Peter gained his abilities and started being a street hero, Spider-Boy, in his homemade suit.
He then easily found out the real identity behind Spider-Boy's mask.
After gathering Peter's identity information and judging that Peter's actions were merely a teenager who admired superheroes and wanted to become one, playing superhero, he stopped paying too much attention.
He had even helped Peter erase some traces to prevent him from being targeted by certain people and causing unnecessary trouble.
Therefore, although he hadn't been deliberately paying attention, he had continued to collect information about Peter.
From the vast amount of information he had, "calm" was not a descriptor he associated with Peter.
In fact, Tony Stark's adjective for Peter was: childish.
Not even immature.
"How have you been lately?" Tony Stark asked out of the blue after carefully examining Peter.
"Uh, I'm doing pretty well, Mr. Stark," Peter said. "My name is Peter, you can just call me by my name."
"Alright, Peter, I'm Tony," Tony Stark said, patting Peter's shoulder. "Wow, you're quite a sturdy young man."
"Mr. Stark, please come in and sit down," Aunt May said at the opportune moment, inviting him.
Peter also made a gesture to invite him in again.
Tony Stark walked into the house, briefly surveyed the living room, and sat on the sofa.
Aunt May went to make tea, and Peter sat down next to Tony Stark.
"Mr. Stark."
"Call me Tony."
"Okay, Tony, so, why are you here to see me?" Peter asked in a low voice.
Tony carefully observed Peter. "It seems you already have a guess."
Peter nodded slightly. "The Sokovia Accords?"
He didn't ask why the accords were related to him, or why Iron Man knew his identity, those kinds of foolish questions.
In his previous guesses, if Iron Man came in person, it meant that everything was already based on Iron Man knowing his identity.
"Yes, and no," Tony said, looking at Peter with some surprise. "I hope you'll sign the accords, but I'm mainly here because I need your help."
"Need me..." Peter was stunned. Had his guess really been correct? Because of Captain America's rebellion, Iron Man needed help to deal with them?
"Ahem," before Peter could ask his next question, Tony cleared his throat and raised his voice. "The September Fund has been approved. So, Peter, when will you be ready? We can discuss cooperation."
"The September Fund? Cooperation?" Aunt May came out from the kitchen, carrying tea and prepared snacks.
"Uh, sorry, Aunt May, I really..." Peter knew this was a cover-up excuse from Iron Man, and he pretended to stammer.
Tony looked at Aunt May, stood up, took some of the items from her hands, and smiled. "Peter is a very outstanding young man. I look forward to cooperating with him."
"I'm also looking forward to cooperating with you, Mr. Stark," Peter said with a serious tone, even changing his form of address.
From Aunt May's perspective, it was about the September Fund and sponsorship. It was probably that her nephew Peter had applied for some funding, and the provider was Stark Industries or something similar.
In reality, for Peter and Tony, Peter's statement meant that he agreed to sign the Sokovia Accords.
"Mr. Stark, can we discuss the details of our cooperation?" Peter asked.
Tony smiled slightly. "Of course, Mr. Parker."
"Aunt May..." Peter looked at Aunt May.
Aunt May gave him a thumbs-up, mouthing, "You can do it!"
"Okay!"
Peter and Tony stood up and walked towards Peter's room.
"What is this, retro technology?" As soon as he entered the room, Tony was attracted by a large, old-fashioned desktop computer on the desk.
Peter glanced at it. It was indeed a computer. He had scavenged a pile of parts from a scrap yard and assembled it himself. It was mainly used for debugging his web-shooters, so he had added quite a few ports behind the computer, making it look a bit bulky.
"Actually, it is quite retro..." Seeing these things from his idol made Peter feel a little embarrassed.
Tony chuckled. He had finally found an expression befitting the kid's age on this pretentious little brat.
That's right, he had thought about it carefully just now. He felt that Peter was just pretending to be profound.
After all, before coming here today, the information he had indicated that Peter was still that childish kid.
How does anyone suddenly grow up overnight?
Even if they did, it would have to be due to some major life turning point.
But Peter's life was calm and peaceful, no different from before. What conditions were there for him to be "rushed to maturity"?
"Although you seem to have admitted it, I still want to confirm, the one wandering the streets in baby pajamas, that's you, right, Peter." Tony pulled out his phone and opened a video.
"That's right, it's me, but those aren't baby pajamas, that's my... suit, just like your Iron Man Armor!"
"You call that thing a suit? Hahaha!" Tony slapped his thigh and burst into laughter.
Peter looked at him, annoyed.
"Ahem, I didn't mean to laugh at you," Tony said, suddenly serious, and apologized, "Haha, but I couldn't help it."
"..." Peter said helplessly, "Tony, can we please stop talking about the baby p- I mean, the suit, and discuss the Sokovia Accords and what you need my help with? I think that's the real reason you're here."
"Yes, right, the Sokovia Accords are..." Tony explained the general content of the Sokovia Accords to Peter, as this was the prerequisite for him joining.
Peter also wanted to understand the full picture of this agreement.
Although he also believed that people with superpowers needed some form of regulation, he found it hard to accept if the regulation was too strict.
Moreover, influenced by his experiences as Shadow Spider-Man, he didn't hold much hope for the integrity of those in power.
He didn't want to become a tool for someone else's profit without understanding how.
