Faced with the "Heavenly Demon Field," Yu Ci, Zhai Que'er, and the group on Duanmu Senqiu's side all had headaches.
The so-called "Heavenly Demon Field" was an innate divine ability of the Outer Realm Heavenly Demons, one that made people turn pale at its mere mention. Its basic requirements were, first, an Outer Realm Heavenly Demon at the level of an Outer Domain Tribulation or above; second, at least one Heavenly Demon Kin of the same rank, corrupted by that demon; and third, the blessing of this innate divine ability.
Once the "Heavenly Demon Field" was activated, it formed an almost completely enclosed vortex field. Within it, the Heavenly Demon was the god and its kin the form; the Heavenly Demon was the void and its kin the substance; the Heavenly Demon was yin and its kin yang.
On one hand, the Heavenly Demon interfered with the soul, conjuring boundless illusions. On the other, its kin launched frontal assaults. The two intertwined and blended together, form and spirit, void and substance, yin and yang shifting in layer upon layer of transformations, dragging trapped cultivators into a terrifying realm where truth and illusion could not be told apart in an instant.
For this very reason, sensible people were best advised not to rush forward to help. Otherwise, mistaking a Heavenly Demon's illusion for the real thing and being struck dead in one blow was a sight seen time and again over the years.
But simply standing by and watching was hardly an option either.
It was not for lofty reasons like "upholding justice," but because of a more immediate danger:
