The Selfishness of Human Hearts

Watching the warships of the Holy Worm State vanish one by one as they crossed the stargate, the Collectors knew they had won this battle. Though the victory had been a rather miserable one, a win was a win, and ownership of this star system was seized by the Amoeba civilization.

"They're retreating."

"Everything proceeded according to plan, very smoothly," said the cluster leader.

Countless high-speed tiny fragments within the star system impacted the proton crystal lattices of the Collectors. Bone-conduction allowed the Collectors to hear the rhythmic, clattering sounds, somewhat resembling rain pelting a drum surface in rainy weather. Each fragment was like a miniature cannon shell; had they hit the mecha of the Holy Worm State, they would have long since been riddled into sieves.

"However, this battle saw casualties, which is a rarity and exceeded my expectations."

"Casualties were bound to happen. Being able to utilize the Spirit Realm means they are not weak. Our previous victories were because our tactics and strategies were more advanced than theirs. This time we were at a disadvantage, and many problems were exposed."

The cluster leader replied, its gaze fixed upon the stargate through which the Holy Worm State fleet was evacuating, as if it could pierce through the deep wormhole within that gate to see the enemy fleet that had just retreated on the other end.

"Leave the rest to the other kin; our mission is already complete."

The Holy Worm State fleet withdrawing from the battlefield did not choose to head to the nearest starport for regrouping. The moment they passed through the gate, they immediately hurried toward another stargate.

Although the main fleet had suffered a defeat and sustained heavy losses in the battle not long ago, with morale trending downward, they still received attack orders from
