Nothing More Than a Wishful Dream

Surrounded by a brilliant starry sky, a living container carrying the brain of a Zerg command-tier individual sped directly away from the Kessian home star at 90 km/s.

The living container possessed specialized visual organs: synaptic eyes resembling snails in biological appearance. They extended from the living container for observation and could retract back inside it when faced with physical impacts such as collisions, friction, or attacks.

As it steadily moved away from the star system the swarm had intended to conquer, the Zerg command individual within the living container kept its synaptic eyes extended at all times, staring fixedly at the battlefield it had fled.

Before the living container had been launched too far away, the Zerg command individual could barely make out flashes of light. Those flashes vanished in an instant, and it knew that every flash represented an enemy attack—an attack powerful beyond reason.

During that initial clash, more than four thousand flashes had suddenly appeared against the backdrop of space. Then, the instant those flashes went out, they took more than four thousand Leviathans from the enormous swarm with them.

The Leviathans' thick, sturdy biological armor had been utterly incapable of defending against such terrifying attacks. Their powerful regenerative abilities had not even had time to take effect before the horrific explosions blasted them into pieces.

...What a powerful enemy... The enormous swarm has no chance of winning at all...

The Zerg command individual did not know what happened in the subsequent battle, as it had already been far from the battlefield by then. But the outcome was not difficult to guess. The enemy had surely claimed the final victory.

With nothing else to do, the Zerg command individual recalled every detail of the war and pondered how the Zerg could defeat such a formidable enemy.
