In the Science-Magic World, the old lich had already summoned dozens of skeletons near the garbage mountain and begun searching for information about the owner of the "Heaven-Sent System"—in the Science-Magic World, there seemed to be plenty of corpses that had not been cremated.
It was a somewhat tragic world, even more chaotic than the human kingdoms that had once bordered the gnolls on the Warren Plains.
For even in those backward nations, human corpses would not be discarded onto a garbage mountain like trash.
Nameless corpses could be seen everywhere, and the people of the Science-Magic World had long grown accustomed to it, treating it as only natural.
The skeletons gathered tremblingly around the old lich. Some had brighter soul flames in their eye sockets, while others were dimmer. Having died at different times, these undead possessed somewhat different souls.
The skeletons with dim soul flames had been dead for at least a year. Their souls had completely dispersed, and the old lich's [Skeleton Summoning] had effectively condensed brand-new souls for them. It would take several months for those souls to fully stabilize and for their soul flames to brighten.
These skeletons retained some instincts from their former lives, perhaps even fragments of their previous memories, but they had in truth become entirely new individuals.
The skeletons with bright soul flames, meanwhile, represented people who had died only recently. Their souls had not yet fully scattered.
Thanks to the old lich's superb necromancy, these skeletons generally retained the memories of their former lives. As they answered the old lich's summons and slowly moved toward him, they puzzledly touched their cold, hard skulls.
