"Having answered your summons, Matriarch, please command me as you wish."
"Whew~" Aya let out an unconscious whistle. She had never expected a treant to be so beautiful. No—in the game, Divine Tree Treants had also been immensely popular because of their beauty and storyline.
But seeing one in person, she could only say that she was even more beautiful than in the game.
"I want to build a residence here." Aya took a step back and gestured at the area for the treant.
The central lake of Moonshade Forest could be called the most beautiful paradise in the entire Moonshade Forest. Its broad, circular surface had four inlets and three outlets. The living water flowed gently yet abundantly, clear enough to reveal plump fish beneath, and the scenery was exquisite.
A ring of grassland surrounded it, with dense forest beyond that. To an elf dragon, this should have been the finest location in the whole forest.
Aya was also very satisfied with this place. Her only question was why there were no magical beasts here. Shouldn't a place this good have been occupied by a magical beast or a pack of them?
"So it's here." The treant spoke, but she did not sound particularly pleased.
"Forgive my presumption in judging your decision without permission, but Matriarch, I do not believe this place is worthy of you."
Huh? Not worthy? Aya was a little dumbfounded. She thought this place was quite nice... at least far better than the filthy, smog-filled world she had lived in during her previous life.
"The life element is so sparse. This lake water is not even spirit water, let alone divine water. How could a place like this possibly be worthy of you, Matriarch?" The treant sighed deeply.
"Green dragon, did you find this place?" The treant looked puzzled. The green dragon she spoke of was the elf dragon, a race among dragons that was most sensitive to the aura of life.
How could a green dragon allow the Matriarch to live in such an inferior place?
"You're attuned to the forest yourself. Feel it, little tree." The elf dragon rolled his eyes at her. He did not particularly like being called a green dragon, but elf dragons and Divine Tree Treants had been friendly for generations, so he could not be bothered to lose his temper over such a trivial matter.
The treant gave the elf dragon a puzzled glance. One strand of her hair lengthened and drooped down, touching the ground.
A few seconds later, the treant wore a helpless expression.
"Even so, I still find it difficult to accept letting the Matriarch live in a place like this."
"Um." Aya cautiously joined in. "Wouldn't planting some trees work? I summoned you because I wanted you to help me build a treehouse."
"The Matriarch wishes to live in a treehouse?" Delight appeared on the treant's face. "That would be my honor."
"You should be able to improve the environment here, right?" the elf dragon said.
"I can, but with my current abilities, I am not yet capable of summoning a Creation Divine Tree that can exist permanently."
Actually, there was no need for that. I think this place is pretty nice. Aya wanted to say so, but seeing the dragon and treant looking so serious and solemn, she could not bring herself to open her mouth.
In the game, treants were support characters. Their most distinctive support ability was "planting trees"—summoning a tree capable of enhancing allies. Any allies within its range would receive the enhancement.
Compared with ordinary buffs, buffs in the form of Divine Trees lasted longer and had better effects. Their weakness was that the effect would vanish if the Divine Tree was destroyed.
The one Aya had summoned was a level 85 Divine Tree Treant, already capable of summoning the highest-grade Divine Tree—the Creation Divine Tree—but only temporarily. Lower-grade Emerald Spirit Trees or even lower-grade spirit trees, on the other hand, could be summoned permanently.
Come to think of it, it was not as though no one could permanently summon a Creation Divine Tree. The story boss from the game, the "Corrupted Treant Queen," had once appeared on the players' side after being defeated and purified. She had summoned a permanently existing Creation Divine Tree, turning the tide at a critical moment.
At the time, a wave of "I want to marry the Treant Queen" swept through the player base. The incident ultimately even led to changes in the game's setting. The Treant Queen, who had originally been an incarnation of the Divine Tree, became the queen of the treant race instead. A racial backstory was added, and treants were included in the summonable roster.
However, summoned treants could not possibly summon a permanently existing Creation Divine Tree. At most, they could summon a projection of the Genesis Divine Tree—a Genesis Divine Tree that existed only briefly.
"I'm sorry, Matriarch. I'm truly useless. If it were the Queen..." The treant was visibly dejected. Even the flower wreath hanging from her hair seemed as though it were about to wither.
Even if it were the Queen, I couldn't summon her. She was a boss-level existence. Aya did not know how to comfort the treant at that moment. After hesitating for a while, she pulled the treant into her arms.
