"That's absolutely, absolutely impossible! The divine tree descended on its own. If someone could plant a divine tree, then she would have to be a god!" The treant grew agitated, even raising a branch to point the knight in the divine tree's direction, but the other party seemed to have already lost interest in the matter.
The direction the treant indicated was toward the Dragon Kingdom? the knight thought. That was their next planned destination anyway. If they came across it along the way, there was no harm in taking a look.
"Knight..." Pines seemed to have more to say, but she failed to notice that the atmosphere throughout the entire area had changed.
It had happened in only an instant. Nearly solidified killing intent suddenly emerged, making the air seem several degrees colder.
"Be quiet." Coldly cutting off the treant, the knight turned to look at the wasteland before them.
The clouds obscuring the bright moon had dispersed, and moonlight spilled down over an empty stretch of land.
"Oh my? Did you notice me in advance?" A voice that sounded rather young despite its somewhat mature tone rang out. A shadow appeared on the ground, then took on the shape of a door, and a human figure slowly emerged from the void.
She wore what looked like a soft black evening gown, its skirt dramatically puffed out and seemingly quite heavy. Her upper body was covered by a cardigan adorned with lace and ribbons, while long lace gloves covered her hands, leaving almost no skin exposed.
Her perfectly formed features, fit only to be described as those of a peerless beauty, were exposed, her skin as white as wax. Her long silver hair was tied to one side and fell over her shoulder, leaving her face completely unobscured. Her dark crimson eyes radiated a seductive, bloodthirsty gleam.
She looked around fourteen, perhaps even younger. Her childish appearance combined cuteness and beauty in equal measure, though one part of her body was rather mismatched with her age, rising in an especially pronounced swell.
"Looks like you're quite strong. I didn't expect following the direction of that pillar of light would bring me such an unexpected prize." Licking her fingers, the girl spoke as a bewitching and cruel smile bloomed across her lips.
"Let me have a taste of your blood."
Author's Note:
The mysterious knight's identity will be revealed in the next chapter~
Also, Nazarick's designated brainpower (lol), the character whose intelligence ranks second only to Gargantua among the Guardians, has appeared! (While I'm at it, please give me some favorites and votes~
PS. The Destroyer Dragon King, also known as the Destroyer Demonic Tree, appeared in the original drama CD. It had extremely high HP but mediocre stats otherwise, and Ainz used it as a training dummy for the Guardians in the original work.
Spear Against Spear
Everything that happened in this world was made up of countless coincidences, and even the slightest change could lead to a completely opposite outcome.
If Ainz had not captured Nigun of the Sunlight Scripture, if Ainz had not fiercely countered the Theocracy's intelligence-gathering magic, if the Theocracy had not mistaken it for the resurrection of the Catastrophe Dragon Lord, if Shalltear Bloodfallen had not made a mistake after indulging in the fleeting pleasure of slaughter.
From another perspective, if the knight had not received the mission to search this region, if she had not used such a flashy technique when killing the Destroyer Demonic Tree, if the Destroyer Demonic Tree had awakened half an hour earlier, while Shalltear was still at the mercenary base.
Or, more fundamentally, if someone far away in the Dragon Kingdom had not planted that tree.
If any of those things had changed even slightly, the situation now would probably have been entirely different.
But reality had no ifs, and at this moment, the two facing each other had no room to consider them either.
That was what fate was like. When countless coincidences piled together, they created a dramatic effect beyond imagination.
And the two who stood on opposite sides under fate's pull had no further choice at this moment.
"She is my enemy." That was the thought that arose from the depths of both their hearts the instant they saw one another.
They did not know each other, and naturally bore no preexisting grudge. The reason such uncontrollable hostility arose was likely because of their fundamental differences.
The knight raised her weapon and assumed a guarded stance. Even when facing the absurdly massive demonic tree earlier, she had never been this wary.
Of course, the demonic tree was not weak. Although its other attributes were poor, its HP far beyond normal limits could cause its enemies considerable trouble. The knight had been able to kill it so easily—indeed, in a single strike—only because she had the advantage in attributes, compatibility, and weaponry.
