Her tail felt a subtle scorching heat. Aya had grabbed it—though rather than a hand, it now felt more like a pair of red-hot iron tongs!
Suddenly, a horrifying scene appeared before her eyes.
Tiamat let out a feral roar, bit down on Tamamo-no-Mae's tail, her sharp fangs sinking in viciously, then tore that tail clean off.
A bead of sweat slid down the fox's cheek. She flicked her tail and sent Aya flying.
Tamamo-no-Mae's tail was completely unharmed, because that scene had not truly happened. Beast's Instinct had allowed her to glimpse an instant of the future.
Aya was flung away, rolling twice across the ground. Due to Tamamo-no-Mae's annihilation magic, the entire forest had already become a wasteland, with not even a dead tree left standing.
"So, you're finally about to break through the vessel." Tamamo-no-Mae grinned as she slowly lowered herself into a crouch—the posture of a beast preparing to hunt.
Aya slowly rose from the ground. Seeing her expression, Tamamo-no-Mae was instantly disappointed.
It was not the expression she had hoped for—that of a crazed beast seeking revenge. Aya's face remained cold and detached, even carrying a trace of transcendence.
"So in the end, I still have to kill you..." The fox rolled her neck. "I was hoping Tiamat could break through the vessel on her own, but... you're unexpectedly resilient."
"Ever since earlier, you've kept talking about Tiamat and vessels... What exactly are you talking about?" Aya asked quietly.
"Do you think I'd obediently tell you my evil plan like some idiot villain?" The fox suddenly charged at Aya.
A black hole appeared out of thin air in Tamamo-no-Mae's path, but she merely raised her right hand.
She slashed through the air with the nail of her index finger, tearing open a rift in space.
