Lin Meijing walked through the door. The moment she saw Pei Shao, she replaced her dejected expression with an indifferent one. Pei Shao understood that the strong-willed Lin Meijing did not want to show her wounded side in front of her subordinate. So he lowered his head as well and casually asked, "You're back?"

"Mm! Have you finished your work?" Lin Meijing never mentioned what had just happened to her. She merely patted Pei Shao on the shoulder with a grin and said, "Keep working. Those reports probably can't be completed without an entire day."

"Oh!" Pei Shao was already feeling gloomy, so he answered Lin Meijing listlessly. Although Castle had said it would help, by the time Lin Meijing returned, Pei Shao had only seen Castle's electronic eyes flashing continuously. He had not heard it say that the task was complete.

Sigh. Looks like Transformers aren't omnipotent either! Pei Shao could not help lamenting inwardly. Trying to compress twenty-four hours of work into two hours really was wishful thinking.

But at that moment, the sound of high heels rang out from the entrance once again.

She had been waiting for Lin Meijing to return so she could vent properly again. Pei Shao did not know that when they had worked at Everglory, Lin Meijing had outshone Su Yating in every respect. Although Su Yating did not know what had happened between Lin Meijing and the boss, she knew that the boss now hated Lin Meijing to the extreme. So, taking advantage of his resentment, she desperately badmouthed Lin Meijing in front of him. As a result, Su Yating was quickly promoted and given a raise, climbing into Lin Meijing's former position. And ever since she learned of Lin Meijing's current circumstances, she had come almost every day to mock and undermine her.

She had even learned that Lin Meijing would write a feature report on cars in this month's magazine, so she immediately used the boss's connections to obtain the same materials. She intended to publish them in Everglory's magazine and challenge Lin Meijing head-on.

She had always believed that the former star reporter, the beautiful Lin, would one day admit defeat and acknowledge that Su Yating truly was better than her. After seeing Pei Shao, this young man who had just graduated from university, her confidence grew even stronger.

Originally, Su Yating had thought that with her current status and position, she could easily charm Pei Shao until he was completely dizzy. If he really fell for it, resigned, and jumped to Everglory, she could then righteously tell him that no matter how outstanding he was, their magazine did not lack staff—especially not "talent" that liked to jump ship!

"We don't want 'talent' without loyalty at our magazine!" Thinking of the surprise, disbelief, and despair that might appear on Pei Shao's face after she rejected him, Su Yating nearly laughed aloud.

But her clever plan had fallen through. She had not expected Pei Shao to be immune to her tricks. Fortunately, she still had a secret weapon: the data on the new car models. This was exactly the effect she wanted. So Su Yating deliberately smiled seductively, walked up to the two of them, and waved at Lin Meijing like an old friend. "Mei Jing, you're back? Why weren't you here just now? It was this young Pei who received me!"

The moment Lin Meijing heard that, she turned her gaze toward Pei Shao. Pei Shao merely gave her a wry smile and spread his hands, indicating that he too had not known at first that their relationship was this terrible.

Lin Meijing nodded in understanding. Then she turned back with a charming smile and asked Su Yating without yielding an inch, "What is it, Miss Su?" From that teasing form of address alone, one could hear the thick scent of gunpowder between the two great beauties, Lin Meijing and Su Yating.

Su Yating's expression changed slightly, but she quickly began giggling again. Raising the handbag in her hand, she said, "Nothing, nothing. Back when we were at Everglory, Sister Mei Jing took such good care of me. Now that Sister Mei Jing has left Everglory to strike out on her own, naturally I had to come see how things were going. Hee hee! I truly admire Sister Mei Jing's courage!"

Lin Meijing did not even blink. She smiled, completely unmoved. "Is that so? Then I'll have to rely on Miss Su to take good care of me. Even a successful man like Boss Jiang thinks highly of you. Miss Su is enjoying boundless glory these days! Still, don't blame this senior for not warning you in the future. Behind glory lies a dangerous peak, so you must be careful at every turn."

"You—" Su Yating was immediately forced completely onto the defensive by the counterattack. Beside them, Pei Shao secretly thought, I never expected the usually icy Lin Meijing to be so impressive when she said cutting, venomous things!

Su Yating quickly suppressed her emotions again and said flatly, "Lin Meijing! You know enough to remind me to be careful, but why are you so careless in your own work? This report of yours... isn't very well done."

Lin Meijing's expression immediately changed. She shot Pei Shao a fierce glare before turning back to ask, "You looked at my data?"

Will they abandon this magazine entirely? Or will they continue supporting you without complaint, all for the sake of Miss Lin's beauty?"

She put on a mock look of surprise and added, "Oh my, I nearly forgot to remind you. You should put your portrait on the magazine's front page. That ought to boost sales considerably. Hahahaha."

Lin Meijing's expression was extremely unpleasant. She took a deep breath, yet she was so choked by those words that she could not say anything.

In truth, Su Yating's words had struck Lin Meijing's weak spot with perfect accuracy.
