On an ice field in New Province, General Castai lowered his binoculars.
"Report: the air defense fire network has been fully deployed. The heavy artillery will begin relocating to Position Two after completing five firing volleys as ordered."
"Understood. Send Tyrans to see me!"
"Yes, General!"
A middle-aged officer with the rank of colonel soon entered the temporary command center, which had been set up around dozens of armored vehicles, command vehicles, and vehicle-mounted radar units. He gave General Castai a salute.
Castai waved a hand. "Colonel, there are no outsiders here!"
"All right!"
Colonel Tyrans removed his cap and exhaled a cloud of white breath, his face grim.
"Old friend, what the hell is going on? Why were we suddenly sent here to fight a war on our own soil against an enemy we don't even know?"
They belonged to a mechanized infantry brigade under the Canada Ground Command (LFC). Not long ago, they had suddenly received orders to assemble urgently, then had been flown to this remote place aboard military transport aircraft.
General Castai and Colonel Tyrans were old friends. They had met while carrying out peacekeeping missions in Africa together in the 1990s. Later, due to promotions, they had been reassigned together and remained so until they were placed in the same mechanized infantry brigade as officers and commanders. Naturally, they had a very good relationship.
After glancing around, General Castai, who had learned more information from higher up, briefly filled in his old friend.
"According to higher command, the Americans supposedly discovered an alien settlement somewhere in New Province!"
Colonel Tyrans raised a brow. "And those bureaucrats believed what the Americans said?"
"Whether they believe it or not isn't up to them. Don't you understand the state of our country?"
Castai's words instantly silenced Tyrans.
