Dumbledore's sudden shout startled Umbridge and the three ladies from Beauxbatons, who all looked at him in bewilderment.

Vaughn pressed a hand to his forehead, speechless. It was hard to imagine that a legendary wizard over a hundred years old could have such an absurd side.

He could simply have knocked, yet he insisted on resorting to something as primitive as shouting.

Hagrid, however, took it in stride. No matter what strange thing Dumbledore did, he would find it perfectly reasonable.

After shouting another couple of times, Dumbledore turned to them and explained with a smile, "Sorry. As you know, my old friends are getting on in years. They're probably taking an afternoon nap, and I doubt knocking would wake them."

Vaughn distinctly saw the corner of Madame Maxime's mouth twitch. The other three ladies wore equally strange expressions.

Clearly, they thought Dumbledore seemed to have forgotten he was a wizard. A simple Amplifying Charm would have made this method of announcing himself rather more dignified.

A clatter came from inside the house, followed by slow, unsteady footsteps. Then the door creaked open, revealing a wizened little old man with a thunderous expression.

"Albus, you-" He had barely begun to complain when he spotted the others behind Dumbledore and changed tack. "You should thank your friends. Otherwise, I would certainly have thrown you out."

Then he smiled at the others. "Olympe, it's been many years since we last met.

"Aha! You must be Hagrid. Albus has told me about you. He said you were a very good man." As he spoke, the little old man shook one dangling arm. It was clearly dislocated.

"Sorry, I was taking an afternoon nap. Albus gave me quite a fright. Perhaps he ought to put it back in place for me."

Dumbledore was happy
