Vaughn lightly snapped his fingers.
In the dining room, at a level beyond Muggle perception, space rippled. A smooth sphere silently emerged from the shadows beneath the table.
Vaughn took a sip of juice and looked at Dumbledore across from him, whose expression shifted as he sensed the sphere. Smiling, he said, "The 'Dimensional Gate' can do more than teleport. Its unique form of existence can also be used for defense—this is a method I just developed over the past few days after encountering Wilkinson. Want to test it?"
He was not being mysterious. The "Dimensional Gate" truly could be used for defense.
And its effect was exceptionally powerful.
Its essence was a warped membrane of space-time. It smoothed out the folds in the path an object traveled through space-time, making it "flat" and "smooth," shortening the distance to achieve spatial "teleportation."
So all he needed to do was reverse the process—turn the flat, smooth teleportation passage of the "Dimensional Gate" into one filled with "folds" and uneven terrain.
Then, by lengthening the distance, he could neutralize incoming attacks!
Dumbledore did not understand the underlying principles, but he understood Vaughn. He knew the other boy was not one to make empty boasts.
