Watching Vaughn act as though none of this concerned him, Dumbledore's aged face darkened.
This brat had gone to North America and provoked DeSantis and the New Gospel Society, yet now he was dumping all the trouble on Dumbledore.
Just as Dumbledore began bristling with indignation, Vaughn changed the subject. "Albus, what do you think about the vacant seats on the Hogwarts Board of Governors, and the position of chairman?"
Dumbledore paused, then frowned. "It's an excellent opportunity, but I must remind you that you need to find a suitable candidate."
"Suitable?" Vaughn looked bemused. "What exactly do you mean by suitable?"
Dumbledore spread his hands. "At the very least, someone more reliable than Lucius. And if you want him to become chairman straightaway, his background and social standing will have to be respectable."
In truth, Dumbledore had already relaxed his standards. But he had little say on the Hogwarts Board of Governors, and making this concession to Vaughn on his own meant he would have to put considerable effort into overcoming the opposition behind the scenes.
Dumbledore did not mind, though. He was delighted to see Vaughn take an interest in authority at Hogwarts, and was more than willing to pave the way for him.
"What do you think of my dad?" Vaughn winked at Dumbledore.
Dumbledore froze, then his face lit up with delight. "Oh! That would be wonderful!" "I don't think there could be a more suitable candidate!"
Dumbledore was genuinely delighted. He had assumed Vaughn merely wanted to install a confidant, which was why he had laid out those conditions.
Being more reliable than Lucius meant that, at the very least, the candidate could have no ties to dark wizards.
Having a respectable background and social standing effectively ruled out werewolves.
