The meadow was in full bloom with flowers of every color, and colorful butterflies with trailing tails fluttered and chased one another among them.
Luo Yunji crouched down and looked at the unfamiliar plant before him. He reached out and gently tapped its blossom. The flower had six colors, all displayed on a single bloom.
He had never heard of or seen anything like it!
Out of the corner of his eye, Luo Yunji spotted a plant that looked like a bun. He jumped up and ran over, then braced both hands on his knees and bent down to examine it.
He leaned close and sniffed. Perhaps because he was a little hungry, he caught the scent of a meat bun. He reached out to pick it, and it felt just like a steamed bun, except it wasn't warm.
He tugged hard, but couldn't pluck it off.
Luo Yunji grabbed it with both hands, leaned back, and put all his strength into the effort, but still couldn't pull it off. Frustrated, he crouched down and opened his mouth to bite it.
Before he could get a bite, though, bitter juice sprayed from the "bun's" folds and filled his mouth.
"Ptooey! Ptooey! Ptooey!"
Luo Yunji spat out the bitter juice while wiping his mouth. He backed away several steps and glared at the "bun" that had bullied him.
Now that he had tasted the "bun," Luo Yunji lost interest in it at once.
"Heh heh!" A sudden laugh startled Luo Yunji.
He turned toward the sound and saw a middle-aged man standing beneath a tree, looking him over. The man's features seemed vaguely familiar.
Luo Yunji looked at him curiously. "Who are you? This bun isn't tasty at all. Do you have any tasty things?"
The giant white lotus was gone.
