He was holding an unconscious SWAT officer in one hand while using the other to shove an SUV into the middle of the road as a barricade.

The exoskeleton units were spread out behind him and on both flanks.

Batman appeared on the rooftop.

The Batarangs arrived first—three flew out at once, embedding themselves in the joints of Bane's mask tubing.

They did not sever the tubes—the material had been reinforced.

Bane looked up and saw Batman's silhouette.

He tossed aside the SWAT officer in his hand.

"Batman." His voice came from behind the mask, muffled and thick. "I've been waiting for you."

Batman leaped down from the roof, spread his cape to glide, slowed himself, and landed.

The two faced each other.

The surrounding exoskeleton units did not open fire.

Bane raised a finger. "Don't interfere. He's mine."

Batman charged.

His first strike was a front kick aimed at Bane's knee.

A standard tactic against oversized opponents—cripple the lower body first.

When his foot struck, Bane's knee bent slightly but did not break.

Venom-enhanced bones were more than three times harder than those of an ordinary human.

Bane swung a backhanded palm down at him.

Batman dodged sideways, but the pressure from the swing cracked one of his suit's shoulder guards.

The gap in strength was too great.

Bane was far stronger now than he had ever been before.

Batman began fighting hit-and-run, using Batarangs, smoke grenades, and EMP grenades to wear Bane down.

But Bane was like an enraged bull. Even after taking five or six hits, he showed no sign of slowing down.

At the same time, three exoskeleton units moved in from both flanks.

Gatling guns swept the area with streams of fire.

Batman had no choice but to abandon his attack on Bane and flip
