"He was attacked." Charles's voice grew heavy. "A new weapon designed specifically for mutants—a collar capable of suppressing the X-Gene. It has completely locked down Logan's Healing Factor."
"Without the Healing Factor keeping it in check, the Adamantium in his body is releasing heavy-metal toxins at an extremely rapid rate."
"The toxins have invaded every one of his organs. His vital signs are fading fast."
Charles paused, then added the most crucial point. "We tried surgery, but ordinary scalpels—even lasers—cannot cut through the bones coated in Adamantium."
"We can't remove the collar, and we can't detoxify his internal organs. He... is being poisoned to death by his own bones."
A perfect dead end.
Which also meant this was a perfect, near-death-level treatment opportunity.
