They fools didn't understand what Cisrain meant to the entire Gamma World.
But he knew, and so did the ministers of the Gamma Empire.
Only Governor Cisrain could lead them to greatness.
Just a few years ago, Gamma World had been nothing more than a fragmented cannibalistic world filled with war, hunger, and despair.
It was Governor Cisrain who had brought technology and innovation, and with them, hope and unity.
He would never forget the day Cisrain had appeared before him.
It was as if sacred light shone behind him.
The hand he had extended toward him.
It had illuminated Gamma World.
And illuminated his life as well.
So he had decided to devote his loyalty to him.
Later, after the Unification War had ended, in order to prevent them from falling into crisis again, Miss Mina had ordered people to investigate Gamma World's history and compile it into historical records.
But Gamma World's history had been unimaginably dark and heavy, nearly driving everyone who learned the truth to despair. The worlds beyond the stars were even darker. They had discovered that if they merely clung to Gamma World, sooner or later they would experience the despair contained in those words.
"So we had only two choices back then."
"Either we stepped into the stars and began conquering, or we stayed where we were and were conquered."
"Governor Cisrain could have become Gamma World's supreme ruler and enjoyed power above all else. But he didn't. After learning of Gamma World's dark history, he barely rested for a moment before directing every resource and every decision toward venturing into the universe. Though the Governor always said that, when necessary, all efficient means should be used and no cost spared to achieve the goal, he always considered us and prepared contingency plans. Even on the battlefield, he always stood before us."
"We have already left our planet. Now, we have only one choice left."
"That is to push Governor Cisrain to become the overlord of the universe, at any cost."
"This is for the continuation of our species, and for the Governor."
"This is Gamma World's only path forward, and also how we repay the Governor's kindness."
"Humanity above all has never been just a slogan."
"It is the Governor's great ambition to lead us toward becoming the masters of the universe!"
"For this great ambition."
"Even a scientist like me."
"Can be sacrificed without hesitation when the time comes."
"You may not understand now, but one day, you will. When you understand all this, every sacrifice will have meaning."
Brown watched Governor Cisrain's retreating back.
His body stood ramrod straight.
His eyes held only Cisrain.
Hearing Brown's words, many of the scientists and engineers were stirred as well.
They felt an urge to head to the battlefield immediately.
"Lord Brown, I'll put on my power armor right now and follow you to protect Lord Cisrain."
"No. You don't need to go to the battlefield. Your battlefield is research. Your battlefield is engineering. Continue researching, continue manufacturing, continue putting your wisdom to use."
"If the weapons you develop are powerful enough, numerous enough, and have enough range that the Governor no longer needs to stand at the front, then you will have done justice to everyone's sacrifice."
"Remember, without humanity, the universe would have no meaning."
"Yes, Lord Brown!!!"
"Yes, Lord Brown!!!"
"Humanity above all!"
"Humanity above all!"
The scientists instantly became wildly excited, as though they had been injected with adrenaline.
Their faces flushed bright red.
Their dull lives had meaning.
Everything they did was for the grand vision.
We were all realizing our own worth for this great vision.
Our worth was to conduct sacred research within this Research Station.
"That's right, there's no time for idle chatter. Many of our technologies require the 'Sacred Khala' to link us together. We need enough electricity. We need to manufacture more Synapse Condensers. We need to connect more people. We may even need to connect the people of an entire world to help us complete our research."
"But that will consume even more electricity."
"That is why we need Tangle Planet. That is why we need Hydrology Planet. The Governor's wisdom and foresight are beyond us. His intelligence and insight make my past self deeply ashamed."
"I will produce results. I will create weapons so the Governor no longer needs to go to the battlefield. I will create strike weapons that can hit the enemy even from several light-years away. For the Governor, for humanity, humanity above all."
Through Brown's rhetoric.
They came to fully understand every one of the Governor's actions.
Just as Brown had said, all of Cisrain's plans, everything he did, was for the great vision of humanity above all.
And as members of the Research Station.
They needed to carry out that vision even better.
Greatness in this world was destined to be forged through sacrifice.
And for this great ambition, why couldn't that sacrifice be me?
Perhaps some people did not yet understand the meaning of this grand vision, but one day, they would.
The enemy's strength only highlighted the importance of this vision.
If this world no longer had humanity.
Then this world would have no meaning.
"For the Governor!"
"Humanity above all!"
"Humanity above all!"
Brown put on the final piece of his armor: the helmet.
The tightly fitted helmet sealed the power armor into a single seamless whole.
He was not much of a fighter, but his armor was equipped with a large number of advanced auxiliary technologies.
Perhaps these advanced technologies would produce unimaginable effects in battle.
"Governor, wait for me! Let me protect you!!!"
The power armor Cisrain wore was even thicker than the Empire's Indomitus Terminator Armor. The various advanced technologies mounted upon it represented the culmination of the most cutting-edge technology in Gamma World's scientific community.
Even a single armor plate required machine assistance; otherwise, at least three people were needed just to barely lift it.
And his weapon.
It was likewise a Power Axe modified from the weapons used by Cyrus and the others.
Ordinary Storm Power Swords or Chainswords were too light for Cisrain, like mere fire pokers.
Only a weapon like a Power Axe, which could be fitted with large amounts of heavy alloy, could satisfy his preference for weight.
As the heavy power armor crossed the ground, even the floor of the Research Station trembled.
The axe in Cisrain's hand thirsted for war.
"Governor, the drop pod is ready."
The Research Station's spatial device could send him directly down.
Outside.
The hastily constructed temporary walls were packed full.
Within the church, sacred prayers lingered in the air.
The remaining Astra Militarum soldiers held their breath as they manned their machine guns, while the humans Ozrax had taken in entered the underground air-raid shelters from the factories in an orderly fashion.
