Was it just an illusion?
It felt as though someone was cursing him.
That happened often enough.
The mission at hand was what mattered most.
This was their first face-to-face engagement with the enemy navy.
The Imperium space fleet's countermeasures had opened his eyes.
The instant they appeared, they launched space torpedoes at maximum speed, successfully destroying the enemy's main escort ship and its flank escorts.
But when they struck the enemy medium cruiser,
they had only disabled one of its primary weapons. Before the third barrage could even begin,
the enemy immediately activated its force-field shields and deployed massive swarms, attempting to use the swarms' machine guns and melta turrets to launch a boarding assault against their escort ship.
Fortunately, they reacted in time, activating several layers of Brown Shields and quickly pulling away.
The enemy cruiser was now on guard. Even without the Void Shields generated by the escorts' primary force-field generators, the cruiser's overlapping layers of daemon force-field shields could still withstand lance and macro-cannon fire. Without masses of lances and macro-cannons, it was nearly impossible to instantly cripple the enemy cruiser.
Having lost its primary weapon, the Hunter medium cruiser could only rely on Dreadnought boarding assaults launched by space vehicles, along with small macro-cannons fired by its secondary weapons, to wear down the Whisper Escort's Brown Shields.
Likewise, the Whisper Escort had to keep using space torpedoes and plasma cannons to steadily drain the enemy's force-field shields.
Countless flashes and explosions erupted across the shields of the two warships.
There were manned vessels and unmanned craft alike. Vast swarms resembling insect clouds were expended as consumables across the battlefield.
Debris from explosions scattered between the two fleets.
Every second, resources worth hundreds of millions of Gamma Credits from Gamma World and the Black Legion were
