Watching Fu Hua swagger off with Princess Kaguya in her arms, the father-son pair, Fujiwara no Maro and Fujiwara no Fuhito, were left somewhat dumbfounded.
In all their lives, they had never seen anyone so arrogant.
This was their territory. Being so disrespectful was bad enough, but now she was ignoring them so completely, too lazy to even say a word before striding off so brazenly.
She had no regard whatsoever for them—or for the Fujiwara clan!
But that was not what shocked them the most. What shocked them most were Princess Kaguya's words.
When they heard Kaguya's voice, Fujiwara no Fuhito and his son became even more infatuated. Even her voice was so lovely, like celestial music flowing into their ears, tender and lingering!
"Mother... That girl called the Daoist lady Mother? Is she her daughter?"
Fujiwara no Maro snapped out of his daze at Princess Kaguya's beautiful voice, then recalled what she had said. He found it somewhat hard to accept.
Fu Hua looked less than twenty, didn't she? Yet she already had such a grown daughter?
Was it a joke, or had Fu Hua simply taken good care of herself?
Either seemed possible. He had heard that when Wu Zetian was fifty, she still looked much like a woman in her twenties or thirties.
The thought made Fujiwara no Maro a little depressed. Could Fu Hua already be in her thirties? That would make her quite a bit older than him!
But the next moment, he became excited again. No matter what, Fu Hua looked young, and he liked Kaguya even more.
The two of them together, mother and daughter...
