Yae Sakura looked at old Mr. Higurashi with some unease. Unlike Mrs. Higurashi, he had been quite unhappy that Kagome had a child when she had only just started her first year of high school.

Strictly speaking, as Kikyo's daughter, Ling'er might have been old Mr. Higurashi's ancestor by seniority. But she and Hotaru were biological sisters, and that relationship was closer, so she followed Hotaru in calling him Grandfather.
"Ling'er! It's been a long time... You've become even prettier!"
Old Mr. Higurashi treated Ling'er entirely differently. He stood up and looked at her with great affection.
