The mortal world.
Fifth floor of the hospital.
Though it was a newly constructed building, the walls had already begun to yellow. Many corners were blackened, crawling with all manner of rust stains.
The lights flickered, as though there was poor contact.
Together with the eternally gloomy sky outside, it made the light somewhat hazy.
It was as if... it overlapped with some other world!
The door clicked open. Though the sound was faint, it was still rather piercing in this silent environment.
Shen Bai poked his head out and surveyed the surroundings. "Looks like... that thing isn't here."
"Ghosts follow certain patterns of movement. They're more like earthbound spirits—so long as you don't deliberately disturb them, they'll only wander within a fixed area... That ghost's pattern should be to roam within the hospital grounds... If we climb down the rope through the window, it shouldn't sense us..."
Though Su Nian spoke with great confidence, the tremor in her voice still exposed her nervousness and unease.
"Your notebook fell there?"
"Over there, in the orthopedics department..."
Su Nian and Shen Bai crept out on tiptoe. Beneath their feet lay pools of strange, dried bloodstains.
"Come to think of it... you seem pretty familiar with this hospital."
Shen Bai casually remarked. Turning down a corridor, he saw the orthopedics department.
A notebook lay quietly atop a row of metal seats.
Its cover bore a strawberry-colored cat pattern.
"This is the one..."
His heart stirred. Limping forward, he grabbed the notebook. "Good, everything went smoothly... Next, we just need to get in touch with the Defense Bureau outside..."
Shen Bai gently shifted his feet and slowly approached the chairs, reaching out to grab the notebook.
Clang!
Suddenly, the sound of a heavy object hitting the ground exploded through the empty waiting hall.
