Kiyo's cafeteria map was wrong at the third turn.
Che hadn't discovered it. Aoki Haruka had.
The next day, as soon as the morning class bell rang, Kiyo spread that "livelihood map" across the desk. He had folded the paper all night, leaving a crease through the middle of the rice ball drawing that made it look as though someone had taken a bite out of it. Aoki Haruka stood beside him with a short pencil in hand, looking serious as if she were about to conduct an important route review.
"Start from the East Corridor." Kiyo pointed at the map. "Pass the equipment room, don't let the wood chips tempt you, turn right, then right again, and you'll be able to smell the cafeteria."
Morita Yu looked at the crooked lines. "That's too many right turns."
"The cafeteria is worth extra turns."
Aoki Haruka said softly, "This should be left."
Kiyo froze. "Impossible. Yesterday, I judged it based on the heat."
"When we got here yesterday, the windows were on the right." Aoki Haruka pointed at the third turn. "If we turn right again, we'll end up behind the East Corridor."
Kiyo lowered his head to look at the map, his brow furrowing tighter and tighter. He clearly refused to believe that his cafeteria map had betrayed him so severely. Che leaned over for a look. Aoki Haruka was right. The third turn really should have been left.
"Revise it," Che said.
Kiyo covered the paper. "Wait. Give it some dignity."
Morita Yu handed the short pencil to Aoki Haruka. "Fix it."
Aoki Haruka glanced at Kiyo. After struggling for a moment, Kiyo pushed the paper over. "Be gentle."
Aoki Haruka changed the third turn to a left. Her line was thinner than Kiyo's original one. A short correction
