Several demons stared at Cui Lang in shock. Hadn't he been sent flying several times just now, finally reduced to rolling on the ground? How had his saber technique suddenly become so fierce?
They all looked suspiciously at the pig demon. Could these two be plotting against them?
Once they had tricked them all to their deaths, the pig demon could devour them and break through to become a great Core Formation demon, able to swagger across all of Cloud Mountain County.
The pig demon roared in grief and fury. "What are you all looking at me for? His saber was definitely not this fast just now!"
Cui Lang watched the demons struggle to their feet, a trace of disdain at the corners of his mouth. "You want to kill me? Perhaps you would have had a chance if none of you were injured. But now, every one of you is badly wounded. Do you even have thirty percent of your strength at your peak?"
The pig demon suddenly understood. "You deliberately let me hit you, knocking over that Li fellow. You used our hands to kill that Li fellow, and now you want to kill us all too!"
It had known its strength was not that great. It could not have sent Cui Lang flying so far so easily.
Cui Lang walked toward the demons. "Didn't expect that pig brain of yours to be rather clever. As a reward, I'll let you die quickly first."
The pig demon bellowed, "Everyone, attack together! Kill him quickly, split the blood food, then each go make a round through the nearby villages. We'll hide in the mountains for a few years afterward."
By the time they emerged from the mountains again, they might not necessarily have broken through to become great Core Formation demons, but all the officials in Cloud Mountain County would surely have been replaced.
After all, they were going to slaughter the people of several villages. Not only would the officials of Cloud Mountain County be implicated and dismissed, even officials at the prefectural yamen would inevitably be dragged down.
Even if Cui Lang was uninjured and stronger than they had expected, four of them could still fight. Were they supposed to fear Cui Lang alone?
They could not defeat Constable Li, and they were seriously injured as well, but joining forces against an ordinary constable was more than enough.
The pig demon led the charge at Cui Lang, and the other demons rushed forward with it. They could not let Cui Lang escape, or how would they split up to slaughter villages and recover from their injuries?
Seeing the four demons charging at him, Cui Lang not only did not retreat or dodge, but instead rushed headlong to meet them.
The pig demon discovered in horror that Cui Lang's saber technique seemed no weaker than Constable Li's, and true essence had actually gathered upon his saber as well.
Cui Lang was at the Essence Gathering Realm!
Pfft!
Having misjudged Cui Lang's strength, the pig demon was pierced through the chest by Cui Lang's saber despite doing its best to evade.
Yet the pig demon did not retreat. Instead, it tightened its flesh and bones, locking Cui Lang's saber within its body and creating an opportunity for the other demons to kill Cui Lang.
Having severely wounded the pig demon with one strike, Cui Lang did not press his advantage. He immediately let go of the saber, dodged the dog demon's pounce and bite, and retreated swiftly.
In two steps, he had backed up beside Constable Li's corpse. He snatched up Constable Li's saber, spun around, and slashed. One of the ox demon's legs was severed outright.
The ox demon had already had one leg badly injured by Constable Li. With another leg now cut off, it collapsed to the ground, utterly unable to rise.
Cui Lang instantly lunged back before the pig demon and swept his saber sideways. A huge pig's head flew into the air.
The dog demon's heart turned cold in an instant. It tried to flee, but before it had taken two steps, it saw a saber tip pierce out through its chest.
It had never imagined that after killing Constable Li, it would fall at the hands of an inconspicuous little constable.
"Miss Peony, where are you going?" Cui Lang flooded his legs with true essence and caught up with Peony in a few strides.
Peony suddenly cried out, "Don't kill me! I surrender! I'll agree to whatever you say."
She turned around with a seductive smile. "Sir Constable, why not keep me in your room? I will serve you until you are perfectly comfortable."
"I can give you all the Blood Pills as well. Besides Blood Pills, I can refine another kind of pill that replenishes vital essence. I can also provide you with a great deal of silver, so you can grease the palms of your superiors and rise step by step."
"From now on, you make the rules. I will never violate them."
Cui Lang stared at Peony. "You know how to behave. I'm very curious—what exactly is your true form? You don't look like a demon spirit, yet your strength is clearly still below the Transformation Realm. How can you take human form without the slightest demonic feature?"
Even when Peony had attacked just now, she had looked like a human martial artist trained in fist techniques.
Had it not been for the faint musky stench on her body, Cui Lang would have found it difficult to believe that this beautiful, alluring woman before him was actually a demon.
Peony cautiously approached Cui Lang. "Sir Constable, my true form is not worth mentioning. Please don't ask about it, lest it spoil your mood."
Cui Lang asked in return, "How do you know I won't be even more excited after hearing it?"
Peony: "???"
She still forced out a smile. "Sir Constable, then I'll tell you quietly."
Peony deliberately leaned close to Cui Lang's ear. Long nails suddenly emerged from her fingertips, aimed at the back of Cui Lang's neck. Just as she was about to drive them down with force, she suddenly felt a sharp pain in her abdomen, and all the strength drained from her body in an instant.
Lowering her head, Peony looked at her pierced abdomen, then stared at Cui Lang in disbelief. "You never believed me?"
With a flick of Cui Lang's wrist, Peony was flung away and crashed to the ground.
"How could I believe the words of a demon?"
"Don't look at me like that. Weren't you trying to ambush me too? Why are you unhappy about being ambushed?"
"Didn't you say I could make the rules? My rule is that demons who harm people must pay for their lives with their lives!"
The skin on Peony's body suddenly curled up, revealing fur-covered hide beneath.
"So it was a female monkey wearing human skin. No wonder her figure was so similar to a human's."
Peony had never used her claws because she could not bear to damage this human skin.
"Where did you get that human skin?"
Peony's eyes were filled with venomous hatred. "You want to know? Even if I die, I won't tell you."
"Then go die." With a swift slash, Cui Lang cut off Peony's head. He turned to look at the ox demon and wolf demon sprawled on the ground. "You two—which one of you can tell me where she got that skin?"
The wolf demon said tremblingly, "I-I don't know either. If I knew, wouldn't I have gotten one to hide myself too?"
"Spare my life. I'm willing to refine more Blood Pills for you, to be at your command. I absolutely won't betray—"
Before the wolf demon could finish, its head was cut off as well.
The ox demon suddenly forced itself up, aiming the sharp horns on its head at Cui Lang as it charged at him viciously.
But Cui Lang easily dodged aside. A flash of saber light passed, and another head rolled to the ground.
"It doesn't matter if none of you know. I can find out by investigating."
He would make an even greater commotion out of this incident—so great that the county would be unable to cover it up, so great that the prefectural yamen would have to send people over.
If the people of Cloud Mountain County could not uncover the truth, could the people from the prefectural yamen not do so either?
Cui Lang searched through the demons' bodies and found several small bottles, all of them filled with Blood Pills.
He placed the bottles in Constable Li's arms, then grabbed an ox hoof and smashed down hard. All the Blood Pill bottles shattered, and the Blood Pills turned to powder.
Dragging the demons together, Cui Lang let the demon blood soak his palms. He also saw the little pot in his mind open its lid and rapidly devour all the demon blood.
This time, he could devour the essence and blood of six demons, and he had Constable Li to thank for it.
Had Constable Li not been so powerful and severely wounded the demons first, Cui Lang could never have killed six demons without so much as a scratch.
But since Constable Li had helped him once, he surely would not mind helping him once more, would he?
