The trolls had once hunted Agamaggan. Nearly all the demigods friendly with the Night Elves had clashed with the trolls; otherwise, they would never have sheltered the elves driven to the brink by the troll empire. The Wild Gods could be said to be divided into three factions: the troll Loa, the Night Elves' nature demigods, and the Pandaren Celestials.
Most gods required rituals and followers to remain powerful, and even animal demigods were no exception. Unlike the troll Loa, nearly every nature demigod had their own devoted followers.
Cenarius had his druids and children; the brothers Ursoc and Ursal had their furbolg descendants; Aviana, Mother of the Winged Ones, had her harpies. Nearly all demigods drew their strength from the faith and offerings of their followers. Yet Agamaggan, the boar demigod, had been betrayed by his own people, the Quilboar. Not only did they fail to provide him with power, they were continuously stripping it from him.
"Please believe us, Agamaggan, God of Boars. The Darkspear Trolls are willing to free you and do everything we can to rescue you," Rokhan said, studying Agamaggan's expression. Clearly, even a Wild demigod who had lived for countless years and possessed the power to see into hearts could not resist the temptation of freedom. Even the trolls he had always disliked could not be refused. He had been trapped for too long; he would desperately seize even the faintest glimmer of light.
"I can consider becoming a Loa of the Darkspear, Rokhan. But I need a promise from the Darkspear, as well as one from your chieftain, Vol'jin. Bring Vol'jin here afterward. I will speak with him." Agamaggan ultimately could not withstand the temptation of freedom. It was already a luxury simply not to have his divine power drained away. Now that he had a chance to regain his freedom, of course he was willing to choose the Darkspear. As for the agreement among the nature demigods from long ago, to hell with it. Over all these years, the Night Elves had never considered saving him. They had simply watched him remain imprisoned here. Their attitude was clear enough.
With Agamaggan's help, the four of them evaded every guard. Even the elite Quilboar stationed on watch failed to notice that they were any different from Quilboar. All four were true powerhouses. After easily taking down the guards, they seized every relic of Agamaggan.
After obtaining the final Heart of Agamaggan, they heard a huge, furious squeal, like the shriek of a stupid pig. "Listen up, all Quilboar! The relics of our god, Agamaggan, have been stolen by shameless thieves! Seal off every part of Razorfen and find the thieves! I want them to suffer a fate worse than death! Whoever captures them will receive my personal blessing and be granted a Blood Shard!" The old crone Karga Spine had gone mad with rage. These relics had been the foundation upon which generations of high priests ruled the Quilboar. By drawing upon Agamaggan's power, they had suppressed the warrior faction represented by the overlords. The Blood Shards had also been crucial tools for winning people over. Now that Agamaggan's relics had been stolen, Karga could no longer keep the warriors represented by the overlords in check. It would certainly trigger a civil war between Quilboar warriors and priests. More importantly, without Blood Shards, the Quilboar would no longer produce powerful fighters. Due to the impurity of their bloodlines, every powerful Quilboar of the present generation depended on the Blood Shards' power to purify their bloodlines and preserve the Quilboar's standing. Ordinary Quilboar simply could not produce strong warriors otherwise.
"We're done for! The Quilboar have blocked the way we came from. We can't go that way! Damn it, the Quilboar have nearly sealed off every route. My god, how are there so many of them?" The four immediately fled after hearing old crone Karga's howl, but Quilboar kept burrowing up from the ground in an endless stream, completely cutting off every possible escape route. Though the four were powerful and possessed the power of shadow, there was no way they could safely pass through such densely packed masses of Quilboar.
"Do not underestimate the Quilboar, children. My malformed descendants have poured nearly all their talents into reproduction. Beneath this land exist more Quilboar than you can imagine." Agamaggan's soul suddenly appeared before the four, who were at their wits' end.
"Please help us, honored Agamaggan, God of Boars." Rokhan performed the noble troll ritual used to address a Loa, sincerely requesting the god's aid.
"I will help you, children. Follow me. Even the Quilboar themselves do not know how many tunnels they have dug underground, but I can sense them. My soul is deeply imprinted upon this land. I will lead you out." In truth, even the Quilboar themselves did not know exactly how many of their kind there were. More than three million Quilboar could be counted, but beneath this land, tunnels stretched from the Barrens to Mulgore and were even directly connected. Countless unrecorded Quilboar lived within them. This was why Garrosh, after leading his troops to strike at the Quilboar, had been trapped by an endless tide of them. If Baine had not sent reinforcements in time, even a powerful warrior like Garrosh might have been worn to death.
No one knew how deep the Quilboar had dug or how far their tunnels extended. If the underground of the Eastern Kingdoms was the homeland of kobolds, and Northrend's depths were the kingdom of Azjol-Nerub, then beneath Kalimdor lay the domain of the Quilboar. Rokhan's earlier talk of exterminating the Quilboar could probably only be achieved by completely destroying the entire continent of Kalimdor. There were simply too many of these pigs. Even if they lined up and let you kill them, they would exhaust you to death.
With Agamaggan's help, they found underground passages with as little Quilboar presence as possible. With the aid of Rokhan's invisibility cloak, the group traveled through the enormous subterranean tunnels without incident. They did not even know how deep they had descended, how far they had gone, or where they had ended up. Even Rokhan, the finest scout among them, had lost his sense of direction. They could only place their hopes in Agamaggan. If Agamaggan intended to harm them and abandoned them down here, they would not even know how to find their way out.
Along the way, they were even more shocked by the number of Quilboar. They passed through many enormous caverns, the largest of which housed over ten thousand Quilboar. They had already seen dozens of such large caverns, each inhabited by more than ten thousand Quilboar, along with countless scattered Quilboar caves ranging from dozens to hundreds of inhabitants. The underground passages were like ant nests—complex and ever-changing, with countless branching paths appearing without warning. Rokhan, who had once declared that he would exterminate the Quilboar, broke out in cold sweat. Even though the Darkspear Clan possessed formidable combat strength, how could their mere hundreds of thousands stand against these boundless Quilboar? Before an utterly unmatched quantity, quality seemed insignificant. The Quilboar were truly like ants from their homeland, living in a vast underground kingdom with countless exits on the surface. Karga Spine was much like their queen, though without that terrifying reproductive ability.
