Since Eric knew that Lex Luthor had already caught the Owl Council's attention, and that the assassins sent by the Council could move against him at any time, he naturally would not let him come into his home.
Once they entered and a conflict broke out, the farm would inevitably get dragged into it.
He would never allow something as foolish as inviting a wolf into the house, unless his brain had turned to mush.
"Can't I?"
Feeling Eric's gaze upon him, heavy with danger, Clark asked in surprise.
"I won't agree to it."
Eric withdrew his hostile stare. "It'll destroy this home."
"Destroy?"
Clark did not understand why he was using such a severe word.
"I don't understand. Why would you call it destruction? It's just a party between a few people. It's private, Eric."
"A party between a few people? Clark, you're always so naïve."
Eric let out a derisive snort. "I don't believe your friends will keep their mouths shut instead of blabbing to the entire school: Hey, Clark's having a party at his house tonight. And I certainly don't believe those hormone-crazed high schoolers will see a party with free beer and donuts and resist the temptation to show up."
"Once those reckless high schoolers get into this house, they'll destroy it."
Clark disagreed with his brother. "I don't think it'll get that serious, Eric. I can handle it. It's just a private gathering."
"Clark, you always confidently think you can control everything, but every time, you screw it up."
Eric stood and stared coldly at him. "I think that when necessary, you need to listen to my advice."
"Yeah, you always seem to be right."
Clark abruptly rose to his feet and faced Eric head-on. "You always seem to know the truth about everything, like with Coach Watt last time. But you won't share it with me. You won't trust me enough to bring me into your camp, yet you keep demanding that I follow the ridiculous rules you set."
Filled with resentment, Clark spoke to Eric word by word. "I can control this little gathering."
With that, he turned and walked outside.
The instant he activated his super speed, he flashed to the doorway.
But the next second, Clark had no choice but to stop his high-speed movement.
Because Eric was standing in front of him.
"Not everything bends to your will, Clark. I think canceling it is the right thing to do."
Eric blocked Clark's path and spoke in a calm tone.
"How? I've already told Lana, Lex, and the others. If you don't agree, you can call Mom and Dad and let them know. But if you want me to cancel it myself, sorry, I can't do that. Compared to going back on my word, I'd rather be someone who takes responsibility alone."
Clark's stubborn temper had flared as well. He refused to back down.
"Then you'll have to stay home today and reflect, Clark."
Eric took a step forward, blocking his brother.
"You can't keep me trapped, Eric."
Clark's gaze sharpened.
"Clark, you know your speed can't surpass mine!"
Eric fixed his eyes on Clark and spoke in an unreadable tone. "Unless you can defeat me, no matter how you run, I'll catch up to you. I'll keep you trapped at all times."
"I know."
Clark clenched his fists. "I've always been the slow one, whether it was the time it took for my abilities to awaken or how I developed and used my talents. I've never measured up to you. But... Eric, maybe you've never realized that I've always been chasing after you. You run ahead, never seeing how much I've improved behind you."
"Clark, are you saying I don't understand you?" Eric asked with a slight frown.
"Isn't that true? At least, you don't understand the current me at all."
There was an odd indignation in Clark's words.
"Now that you've said that, I'm even more curious. Then let's try it. Go ahead and leave. Let's see whether I can stop you."
Eric narrowed his eyes.
Boom!
Boom!
Sonic waves rippled outward through the air.
The spreading roar set off bursts of explosions in the air.
The shockwave slammed against the room's door, violently pushing it shut.
Two streams of air too fast for the naked eye to catch shot across the farm toward the desolate plains.
The moment Eric took off, he discovered that Clark's speed far exceeded his expectations.
In the span of a breath, Clark had shot hundreds of meters away!
His short-burst speed was nearly 300 meters per second.
Eric himself had only barely broken the sound barrier, 340 meters per second, yet Clark had immediately surged to nearly 300!
Was this the talent of Superman?
Even in the early stages of comprehending the Son of Krypton talent, he had already reached this level?
Though shocked by Clark's sudden burst of speed, Eric did not pause. He immediately accelerated after him.
His arms pumped rapidly as he raced forward in a running posture like The Flash.
The corn in the wind-swept fields bent outward. The two air currents carried dense air with them, forming two gale-like trails sweeping across the ground.
After leaving two tracks of flattened crops through the cornfield, the two currents burst out and continued speeding forward without losing momentum.
In the blink of an eye, the currents representing the two of them passed through a cedar forest and rushed onto the highway.
Clark no longer held back. He unleashed his talent with all his strength. Right now, all he wanted was to run as fast as he could.
Wind roared in his ears. A barrier of air cut off his body's sense of touch, while the blurred scenery around him flashed past.
As he sprinted at full speed along the forest road, he seemed to become a streak of light.
Was this what the ultimate speed felt like?
For a moment, Clark immersed himself in the thrill of being so powerful when he went all out.
Boom!
A deafening sound suddenly erupted behind him, like thunder crashing down from the sky.
Amid the dull, gathering rumble of thunder, a series of boom, boom, boom airbursts exploded behind Clark.
The trees lining both sides of the highway were struck by the airwaves in an instant, as if they had exploded. Branches and leaves blasted outward.
The airwave was rushing at him along the highway!
The energy within the compressed, dense atmosphere burst outward in an instant. The massive air explosion created a shockwave that blasted him away as he ran.
Boom!
Clark's body slammed heavily into the soft earth in the woods.
His speed was so great that he even plowed a long furrow through the ground before barely coming to a stop.
"Cough, cough."
Clark spat out a mouthful of dirt. His head spinning, he looked at Eric, who stood before him expressionlessly, and revealed an utterly shocked expression.
"Th-this... what was that? A sonic boom?"
