Actually, Dracula was a formidable fighter even in the original Marvel comics. He had incredible strength and speed, could turn his body into mist, transform into a werewolf or a bat, and heal at an astonishing rate. He was a master swordsman, and could even summon wind and rain.

In the early comics, Earl Dracula had crossed paths with plenty of prominent Marvel characters and fought a good number of powerful opponents. The main reason was that the guy was obsessed with kidnapping female superheroes, or the wives and girlfriends of superheroes, so there were plenty of opportunities for conflict. For example, he once abducted the Asgardian warrior Sif, leading to a fight with Thor, who came to rescue her. They even summoned lightning against each other in a contest of magic.
