The entrance to Laboratory Zero was like the throat of a colossal beast, swallowing the last trace of daylight.
Fang Gang landed, dark-gold aura circulating around him like a thin layer of burning flame. It forcibly pushed back the ink-black corpse mist for several yards, illuminating the slick metal stairs beneath his feet, coated in dark-red, vein-like mucus.
The thick stench of corpses mingled with a strange cold odor of burnt electronic components, rushing straight into their nostrils.
"Drip... drip..."
In the dead silence, the sound of mucus dripping was especially clear.
"Stay close." Fang Gang's voice was low. His golden eyes glowed like two pools of molten metal in the darkness as they swept over the bottomless blackness beneath the stairs.
He could clearly sense that the immense, chaotic presence below, filled with greedy devouring intent, had grown even more restless and... colder because of Hundred Ghost Princess's ice crystals.
The bone talisman at Ling Shuang's ribs flickered with golden light as she guarded Chen Gang's side warily.

The stairs extended downward as though they had no end. The surrounding walls were covered in thick dark-red flesh membranes that continuously writhed and contracted. Countless tiny black particles, like insect eggs, were embedded in their surfaces, giving off faint fluorescent light and a nauseating parasitic aura—the nest tissue of Heart-Eating Worms!
The farther down they went, the thinner the corpse mist became. Yet the air grew increasingly cold and biting, carrying Hundred Ghost Princess's distinct yin chill.
The veins in the flesh membranes along the walls pulsed more violently, like countless rotting hearts beating in unison.

From the shadows around the corner
