Jiang Ning listened intently to Miaoguan, his brow faintly furrowed.
Miaoguan glanced at Jiang Ning, then continued.
"To people like them, this world is merely a cage a few inches wide. And it goes further than that."
"After becoming immortals, they rise to a higher plane and can sense the source of heaven and earth, as well as the River of Time."
"For those great beings, it isn't just the world of the present that feels like a cage. They can travel upstream along the River of Time into the past. Some can even withstand its backlash and change the present from the past. To people like them, neither past nor present holds any meaning. Nothing remains secret, and nothing in heaven and earth can stir their interest."
"After enough years have passed, trapped in a cage a few inches wide, everything loses its meaning. Nothing can spark the slightest interest."
Hearing this, Jiang Ning nodded in understanding.
He had never experienced it himself, but he could understand.
When everything was known, when time brought nothing new, when every experience had been lived through countless times, even the firmest resolve would turn extreme.
Given enough time, anything could change.
"Did they escape, then? Did they succeed?" Jiang Ning asked.
Miaoguan shook her head. "Not they. He."
"He?" Surprise crossed Jiang Ning's face.
"Yes. The master of the Heavenly Court, sovereign of heaven and earth," Miaoguan said. "Even those great beings had no hope of escaping. Only the greatest person of all time—the sovereign who ruled ten realms and rewrote the laws and rules of the world—had any chance."
"But that stretch of time was almost entirely erased by a mighty power. The great beings vanished into the surging tide of time, and no detailed records
